My husband and I are off to Sydney in late Nov/early Dec 2008 and I probably need to book the flights now.
We would like to stop off on the way, probably Singapore and Langkawi in Malaysia. We are doing a house swap so have somewhere to stay once we get to Sydney.
I would appreciate advice on where to get the best deals on flights please.

hi, you could check airline network or try emirates and use the code UKHSBC1 for a discount although you do have do book with an hsbc card, but if you phone flight centre and get them to beat the deal then you can pay anyway you like.
i did it this way and asaved a couple of hundred quid.
or you could get a flight to perth which is always cheaper then get an internal flight, not sure the exact cost for that though.0 -
Most airlines don't open booking until 330 days ahead so you are probably not going to have any luck now.0

This is right i had the same issue when i booked in 2005.
Anyway try Singapore airlines, great airline and good price when we booked
We booked through http://www.a1travel.com/search.asp?mode=FLIGHT&AFCODE=A1FLIGHTS&campaign=google_search_Brand&kw=a1+travel
You can stop off in Singapore at no extra cost just book your own hotel!

We have just booked our second flight to Oz, flying Emirates. Both times Travelmood have been cheaper than booking direct with Emirates and we have found them to be excellent.
As dzug says, you wont be able to book your flight yet, it's too early for next December. Probably about February/March time is about right.
When the time comes you could always go to travelsupermarket.com for prices for flights, also the travel section of The Mail on Sunday or other newspaper, always plenty of adverts.0 -
I've just been through the same scenario for this year. Found lastminute useful in terms of working out the cheapest dates to fly, then trawled the flight sites. Also made a few calls. Different sites and agents seem to have access to better prices on certain airlines. Have to say, though, that prices were broadly similar - going to cost £4,000 for four of us and the potential saving was only £200 across the places we tried. Ended up booking Malaysian through Airline Network. However, if you fly out in November, the prices come down quite signifcantly0

Thanks all of you for your help and suggestions. I am obviously a bit early so will try next Spring. :beer:0

When booking our flight to Oz in March, we looked at ebookers.com because we could do a multi-stop trip and then found it slightly cheaper direct through qantas.
go through quidco -ebookers and get 1% cashback.0
