Credit scoring and credit card use

Hi all,

just wondered if anyone on here could help me please.
I have checked my credit score on checkmyfile as I am planning to apply for a mortgage and I am a bit confused, not sure where I stand with the points, if I am in a good position or bad and what are the maximum point you can get.
This is what I got
USING DATA SEEN BY LENDERS:
Callcredit:791
Equifax: 791

USING DATA SEEN BY OTHERS:
Callcredit:799
Equifax: 813
Experian 813

OTHER SCORES:
Postcode:720
Application:745

The second question is that I only spend around £70 per month on one credit card and haven't used the other one for over 3 months.
I guess it is affecting my score as I don't fully utilise the credit already available to me.
I am planning to apply for a mortgage in January and wondered if I should start using the credit cards as much as possible or shall I leave as it might not make any difference over the next two months

Many thanks for your replies.

Tatiana

  • Hi tatiana,

just think about this logically. How much impact do you think using your credit card will have upon your credit history? (not your score which is irrelevant and will not be seen by your mortgage company or anyone else who will lend you money).
How much difference do you think spending £70 pcm on a card or £500 pcm will make to someone about to lend you several hundred thousand pound?
Do you think its at all relevant?
These tactics which have some marginal impact upon your irrelvant score will i suspect have virtually no impact upon your ability to get a mortgage. Handle your finances sensibly, keep your debt levels low. Dont miss payments and you will get a mortgage fine, because you will have a great credit HISTORY.
