Proof of purchase

Looking for some advice please.
My elderly mother has just discovered that she has been paying £10 a month fo the past 2 years for an appliance that packed up 2 years ago, unfortunately the company kept renewing the policy. On phoning the company they asked for proof of purchase for the new appliance, she bought this from Argos (she thinks) unfortunately she has no proof.
What are her consumer rights if she cannot prove purchase?

Some clarification is required.
What exactly has she been paying £10 per month for?
If it's no longer needed then why doesn't she just cancel?
What are they asking proof of purchase for and why?0 -
Sounds as if they are going to refund if she can prove she replaced the appliance.
Sounds fair enough to me. Your mother (or you) should have been on the ball and cancelled the policy at the time.0 -
They are not going to know the appliance was replaced or when. Unfortunately you need to see it from their point of view, all they did was stick to their contract and without any imput from you mum to cancel they couldn't know any different.0
