Morning
I got a letter from BT saying they are passing debt to debt collectors and putting account into default. I never had this account and it was my EX house who opened the account 6 years ago in my name and i wasnt aware of this.
She has been paying this for 6 yrs until she changed account names and wouldnt pay the final bill as trying to claim cause its in my name.
What process can i take to have this default removed as i wasnt aware of any of this.
Thanks in advance
Rich

If your ex opened an account in your name without your consent and then paid it without your knowledge then the only real route I can see to get this one off your back and have the default removed is to formally report it as a fraud. This will have implications for your ex as you would be accusing her of fraud; of course she may very well claim that you are lying in an attempt to avoid the debt and this game could get messy.0

Report it to action fraud (presumably BT will have a record of where the bills were going to - not you presumably (e.g. emailed or posted to her address or to an address where you do not live)). The only way you will get them off your back is treating it as fraud (which it is) otherwise the company will just assume you are trying to get out of paying your debts.
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Were you together when she opened the account?
Were you living together at the time?0
