Oil Pipeline goes through garden

Hello all,

I've just had an offer accepted on a house, and i've found this on the land registry title.
The land tinted pink on the title plan is affected by the right to
maintain and use, in accordance with the provisions of Section 12 of
the Requisitioned Land and War Works Act, 1948, a government oil
pipeline and works accessory thereto, the approximate position of such
line and works being shown by a blue broken line on the title plan.

The pipeline goes right past the corner of the house, and through the garden. Its on the edge of a town, so lots of other houses around. The only info i can really find is it shows up as a planning constraint. Should i be concerned? I don't seem to be able to find a map of exactly where the pipe is, if its still live, and where it then goes.

Is the central heating boiler gas or oil fired?

This is possibly part of the Government Pipelines and Storage System originally designed to take aviation fuel to airfields safely, but extended after WW2 for commercial uses too.

It was sold off earlier this year to Compania Logistica de Hidrcarburos, a Spanish concern, but the MoD kept the rights to use it.

The only problem this is likely to cause a purchaser is that there will likely be a restriction on building over it.

It's a bit like the water main that passes through my land to the local villages; I'm not supposed to build within 6 metres of that without permission, but the water board's map is inaccurate, or my dowsing is rubbish!

I expect/hope that the pipe itself itsn't under the corner of your house, and that's just the edge of the buffer zone restricting development? The only real issue will be the restriction on development. There's the theoretical risk that at some point they'll want to come and dig up the pipe, so if it is actually under your garden that could be inconvenient (though they'd need to reinstate any damage they cause). Also might deter the more paranoid buyers in the future or prevent you from running a music festival.

Although if you have any pals high up in the SNP I'm sure they'll put in a good word for you to get a massive grant to relocate your festival to another part of the garden :D.
