Cost / Number of school trips

Our kids went to a Secondary school in an affluent area, which meant that trips could have included CHINA, Skiing, and places that we as parents couldn't dream of affording. I explained that if they could find a spare £1000 in our budget, they were welcome to go. I actually think, the discussions we had about cutting your cloth, in a way that you can afford, has turned them into sensible adults.0

I remember when one of my twins came home with a letter about a school trip to Spain. If I remember it was about £700 for 5 days!! (This was about 9/10 years ago?
They were going camping, hiking, mountain climbing, sleeping in a tent, bivouacking, digging their own toilet trench-for that money, really? Her older sister was going on a German work exchange trip (she was doing A level German) and her twin sister was going on holiday to Greece with her best friend's family, which they were paying for. Her argument was that they were going overseas on holiday, only fair that she went to Spain.
A 14 year old, obsessed with make-up, hair straighteners, internet (think it was MSN messenger then, rather than Facebook!) who hated getting dirty and showered every day, thinks going halfway up a Spanish mountain and shi**ing in the woods is going to be lovely time? Character building perhaps but even if they were going to be staying in a 5 star hotel I would still have said no.
Ridiculous amounts of money are charged by schools for these trips. More parents say no than yes for these trips, hence the majority of them get cancelled before they get off the ground. The only ones I agreed with were the ones relating to the languages they were learning.0 -

No, it was me believing the school apparently they do still do them but they were just not prepared to fork out for it.. bit crap when you consider how much work they have the children doing when they get them there.. they have very little free time!
I may be irritated and will definitely be bringing it up at the meeting next month!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I'm sorry I had laugh, the thought of paying that much and having to dig out the toilet..... at that price I'd want 5 star luxury...
Just reminded of something DD did....
We went to the Dom Rep for my 40th (she was 8 1/2 then), upgraded to premier on plane, nice hotel, later that year we went to Tunisia as were getting onto the plane, the crew were directing us to the seats, they'd said go down and xx rows.... DD pipes up, wheres the 1st class, I only fly first class).... it was so funny.
Now - Its hair straightners, make-up, lush bath bomb (bath is a luxury - we have a wetroom), phone, tablet... how we ever managed without the internet I would never go.
---
To add she is over the moon about London, I'm pleased for her, not because its the cheapest, but I think she would get more out of it xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

Def worth bringing up, yes there is a small cost but its not going to be price passport (think about £75), they'd include the cost in the price of the trip - even if it was £20 still be a lot cheaper. xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
