Bought Superdrug OB(own brand) dental tape from superdrug because quid cheaper (1.49) than the usual brand.
When used it comes apart between ones teeth, and breaks and bits get stuck between teeth.
Took it back to superdrug asked for refund and said I would buy the normal expensive one instead.
was asked for a receipt - said no - (it's their OB no need for receipt). Manageress said would have to phone HO for authorisation.
Waited..
Came back told me HO would take the product and "test it", then contact me by post. Please write name and address on paper.
"this is rediculous" says I, I wrote name and address and a short bit about how cr4p it is, and that I expected a no quibble refund. Product is not suitable for the purpose.
Manageress apologised, and told me I would be contacted by HO within a week or 2 by letter. I told her to let them know customer *was* going to buy more expensive product in exchange, but now will not be doing this.
For a 1.49 OB product they are going to:
Phone from branch to HO cost 10p
Post (maybe deliver using inhouse sysytem) from branch to HO cost unknown.
Test product, cost - use of staff and equipment unknown.
Post a letter to me with decision cost - 35p plus staff time.
If I do not receive refund and they do not return the product, they will find themselves having a further cost to send me my property. Then they will incur further costs when I take this further, trust me, I will not give up.
The sensible business thing to do would have been to say, "sorry you have not been satisfied, here is a refund, we will test the product and let you know our findings".
