I second getting him a "skin" so it's not as you say boring and grey to look at.

Thanks to everyone who has replied

I am going to get him a "skin", and have ordered the little funky speaker thingy someone suggested!
He already has headphones which he can use :rotfl: Thank God!
Pigpen - how do you get the daily email thingy? I assume that most of the other suggestions will be things i can change in the normal laptop settings, but wasnt sure how you have set the email alert thing up?
Thanks again!Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0 -
I'm really shocked at anyone who would think an 11 year old child wouldn't be over the moon with something as expensive as a laptop!!!
Especially the notion that it could be seen as boring or not enough!
I would be having words with myself for thinking that!0 -
Get him some video editing software so he can make vines! You can spend hours on end making a funny vine and the editing skills would benefit him if he chooses a career with computers

You haven't lived if you have never seen the i'm normal fish vine :rotfl:

Could probably get steam vouchers? That way he could download some games. Just be aware laptops are rarely good for games unless they are an expensive dedicated gaming machineTrying to lose weight (13.5lb to go)0

I remember for years begging my parents for a computer (PC..i'm old
) and when they got one it was the best preset ever, they;d gotten it off someone from a newspaper ad and this person had (*ahem possibly illgally in hindsight
) put loads of programmes on it, i remember it had Catz or Dogz, Photoshop and a few other programmes. Though to be honest i spent many hours just using Microsoft Paint
I got my first laptop when i went to uni (ad my siblings subsquently got theirs when they went/turned 18) and it wasn;t the fanciest one (think my mum got in on sale in woolworths) but it had all the basics and tbh i was just grateful to have my own laptop. I didn;t need added extras to make it more excitingThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
A great present that I'm sure he will love.
If he is into his Tech then setting the laptop up and getting it the way he wants it, with the look and the programs he wants will be enjoyment that lasts well beyond the opening of the box. It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -
I'm sure he'll be over the moon! I would be! lol
I also wouldn't feel bad about that being the only present to open. There were a few times when I was younger, that I would only get one big present for Xmas and my parents always explained that it would be my only gift due to the cost and I never had a problem with it. I was usually way too excited about the 'big' gift I got! I can still remember coming down on Xmas Day to find my very own, pink, brand new bike! NOT a hand me down from one of my siblings. My very own bike!! I didn't have any other gifts that year and didn't care one iota!February wins: Theatre tickets0
