Well you can refuse to pay and get several non paying strikes against you. Repaying part of the postage will actually cost the seller more , but regardless of that if you wanted to combine postage it probably would have made more sense to ask before you bid.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You've already committed to buying with all of the quoted postage costs. I would thank the seller for their offer to refund the difference and pay up.
We see all the disasters on here, but the vast majority of sellers are honest and helpful. You would be very unlucky for this to be one of the rare people who would go back on their word.0 -
OP, next time remember to ask the seller for a revised quote on postage before paying. The seller would have to pay ebay and paypal charges on £16 even if he refunds you part of that cost. Ignoring the paypal charges he would pay £1.60 to ebay. Say the postage only came to £8 and you had asked him before paying and he sent you a revised invoice, he would pay only 80p.
In all my listings I offer combined postage and I also ask the bidders to get in touch with me before paying - I underline and put before in bold. So many buyers ignore that, pay me and then expect a refund on postage! Some silly buyers even pay separately for each item when they could have paid in one combined payment - for each payment paypal takes a fixed 20p.0 -
I wouldn't even bid or BIN before asking the seller if it's OK to collect (if near) or combine postage if not. You really shouldn't have assumed they would. Some sellers pre-pack their items ready to post immediately they are sold, so having to unwrap and repack could give them a lot of unnecessary work.
One seller, even though they agreed to collection, still sent me an invoice including the postage so I explained they would be incurring PP fees when they said they'd refund the postage on collection, so they then cancelled the invoice and thanked me for pointing it out.
I have since purchased several items from them.0 -
I've done this several times before where I have paid the full amount and the seller has refunded me the difference after they find out the actual postage cost. Never had a problem as long as they agree in advance that they will refund you the difference.0

OP has asked for a revised invoice before paying. The seller doesn't want to send one!0 -

Didn't know that as I don't have a micro account!0
