PIP assessment a year early

Just wondering if anyone else had found themselves in this position. Was awarded PIP standard rate care October 2015 for two years. Last month i received a renewal form a year early. When i phoned to query this i was told this is normal and is to prevent any delay in processing causing a persons award to finish before their medical. At the same time i was told that i can expect my medical in late December, ? So whether we win or lose we are having almost a year stripped off our award. The person i spoke to said this will be happening with everyone.
