SP30 - Offence Date V Conviction Date.
Just a quickie
I've been give a SP30. I was pulled over by the police but not given a FPN for whatever reason and it was sent off to the local Magistrates court, who then offered me a FPN...
The offence date was 11/10/2015 but due to it going through to courts i didn't receive the offer of FPN until 12/11/2015 - I'm guessing this is the conviction date?
When telling the insurance which date do i give them??
Thanks
Matt

Are you sure ? - courts cannot issue FPNs ( although they can impose an equivalent penalty). If an offer of an FPN came through the post it will have come from the local traffic offence unit.
However, that doesn't really matter - as far as your insurance goes, you give them whatever date they ask for- if it isn't clear, ask them. I suspect it will be the offence date they want.
Technically accepting an FPN isn't a conviction, although for all practical purposes it is.
For driving licence purposes (e.g. calculating how long the points are valid for) it is always the offence date that counts.0 -
Well its the equivalent to a FPN. SP30 - 3 points and £100 fine.
reason is I've just contacted my insurance to make them aware and their not charging me untill next year even though my insurance renewed on 10/11/2015.
I've contacted my other halves insurance as im a named driver on hers and they want £95 extra for it but her insurance renewed on the same day as mine (10.11.2015)0 -
SP30 is the standard offence code for (non-motorway) speeding, it would be the same whether it was an FPN, or a court imposed penalty.
Insurance companies can respond in whatever way they want to these things - shop around for the ones where it has the least impact.0 -
An SP30 made no difference whatsoever to my car or motorcycle policies.
Have you asked them what the £95 is for?
Most people don't bother telling the insurance company until they next renew.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -

There is no conviction date for a Fixed Penalty!
The fixed penalty legislation states that the offence date is the relevant date, for the purposes of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (which is the Act which allows you to legally lie to your insurers about your driving offences after a set amount of time).
