Deposit for restaurant booking not repaid

Not your average problem really.
A few weeks ago I had a reunion with some friends and we went out to for food. I booked a table for the 10 of us over the phone and was told it would be £10 deposit to reserve the table. No problem there, paid by debit card and had a lovely time. At the time of the meal I didn't really inquire about the deposit as it was only £10 and thought that would be a reasonable addition to the gratuity.
I checked my bank account the following week when I returned home to find the restaurant had taken £100 as a deposit (which I didn't agree to) as when I contacted them they said it was actually £10 per person. Now i'm have a hell of a job trying to get it back. The restaurant haven't yet said I would be getting any of it back.
Help, not sure exactly what I can do about this!

Go back to the restaurant in person with your bill, if you still have it, and demand that they repay your deposit.0

Are you sure they just didn't take it off your bill? That would be the normal thing to do with a restaurant deposit.0

Neilmcl I no longer have the bill and the restaurant is in Cardiff, I live close to Falkirk.
Agrinall this is what I thought would happen also however was definitely not taken off the bill
Wealdroam I will give this a try.
Thanks0 -

You said in your first post you thought it was a reasonable addition to the gratuity.
Not sure what you want. You said the restaurant could keep it and now you want it back.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

If you had read the OP, it was assumed that the deposit was only ten pounds. That is what would have been a reasonable addition for service, not the one hundred pounds the restaurant actually took.
OP, Wealdroam is on the right lines for this. A chargeback is propanbly your best bet for this.0
