O/S Daily Thursday 19th November 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and enjoying first cuppa of the day, as he’s off today and tomorrow, today for the funeral and tomorrow as we’re going away for the weekend. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.

Now getting light, wind seems to have calmed down, hoping it stays away for a while, but forecast is not promising.

Dinner last night was pork chops, mash, LO roasties, LO cauli/broc cheese, LO Yorkshires, mixed veg and gravy – DH rang and said he’d been so cold at lunchtime that he’d bought some chips so didn’t want dinner, so I was able to cook our dinner and we had just finished eating when DH got in from work. Today the boys will organise their own dinner, they will chose from the fridge/freezer or store cupboard.

Was really disappointed with MrT yesterday they didn’t have some items I needed so I finished up having to visit the much smaller MrM to get the last bits – also much more running around. I did manage to get some ironing done, so at least when we get in tonight I can get a bag packed for DH and I for the weekend.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning all. Just a quick one from me as two of the DGDs are already up and the third will be to waken shortly. Let the fun begin!

Had a good but very soggy day yesterday in Skipton! Torrential rain sums it up nicely. Very few market stalls had braved the elements so much cs browsing was done to keep dry. Saddened to hear the Greyhound & Lurcher rescue shop is having to close as the rent has been put up to silly money. The Italian knitwear and floaty top shop is relocating and selling everything at 30% off. My friend and I both got a lovely top each to wear at Christmas.

The rain didn't dampen our spirits and we had a good day out, managing to get a few stocking fillers and enjoy a lovely lunch and bottle of wine. Does you good to escape once in a while.

Shopping to be done today (Aldi) and an order to pick up at Argos. This afternoon my yummy sausage order is being delivered to my DB's so will need to pop down for that. Then the DGD's back for tea and another sleepover. So a busy and tiring day in store.

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))))) to those wanting/needing. Take care xx

    Morning All

Dry and milder this morning, hope it stays that way, yesterday's rain was biblical again.

Met DD from work and went shopping - just kept telling myself that I was going to get something to eat at the end of it! She got a throw (colour wasn't right so she's taking it back) and some cushions, that was the £50 voucher taken care of. Anyway had a lovely carvery meal in a pub chain place, ate too many veggies and felt full all night. Got home about 9pm.

Tonight it's the hospice and then I am going to lay on the settee and do nothing, can't cope with 2 nights not getting in till 9.

Hope all's well with you all, take care. XX

    Morning :hello:

There was a nasty accident on one of the main roads early yesterday morning, a man was airlifted to hospital. Hope he'll be OK. It seemed to affect a lot of bus routes (not sure how, the roads weren't too busy) – ours run every ten minutes but none had turned up for over an hour, it goes nowhere near where the accident was. Miss tru came running back from the bus stop to ask her dad for a lift into town, he ended up taking a couple of other people too. There were lots of people waiting at various bus stops and she knows a lot of people were late for work from different routes. Very strange.

The men weren't too bad yesterday, they were quite well behaved :D It was great to see them but I was glad to have my house back when they left, I could finally relax. There's no reason not to relax when people are here, but I just can't seem to.

I've been invited out for pizza one day next week – I get to choose which day. I said that would be great, but I have the dentist on monday and I'm so wound up about it that I haven't thought past the appointment. I'll be fine by the time I get home at lunchtime so could I please ring you then? They know what I'm like with anything dental so just laughed and said yes :D I've quickly checked my Christmas stash and I don't need to buy much. I'll concentrate on that next week too, lol.

The weather was calmer yesterday, still a bit wet and windy but not too bad. I hope today is the same, I don't fancy another bad weather day. I have the whole day to myself so I'm going to make the most of it – a quick tidy up then a nice walk. Some crochet and reading later. I have to contact Morrisons, I had a few extra things delivered. They were spread amongst three bags of things I had ordered so it's not like the driver gave me someone else's shopping bag by mistake. A small turkey roast, frozen stuffing balls and frozen veg. I feel quite sorry for whoever it belongs to, I have their Christmas dinner, lol.

  • Good Morning chums, dark and dismal outside at the moment.
But very cheerful inside:) My DGS Ben rang last night to say that he and his G/f Katie were back from Wales and snug in their student house in Norfolk. Sensibly they decided that because the weather was appalling they would abandon climbing Snowdon until better weather came along It must have been bad as normally nothing stops them:)They found a lodge for the night then drove home. But he said what they saw of Wales was gorgeous and they will return.I am just relieved that they are home and in the dry and safe.

They are going to come home for the day, a week Sunday as its his Dads birthday and its going to be a surprise for him.

His Mum and I know, but Dad and his younger brothers don't :):) I am so looking forward to seeing them both ,it seems like an age since they went off in September.

My gardener chap is coming today to hopefully put a dado rail up for me in my sitting room He's a lovely chap who does odd jobs as well as gardening. Where my recliner chair is the back has rubbed away the wallpaper a bit and I thought a nice wooden white rail would sort it out as I like the wallpaper in there and I don't want to change it.Darned sight cheaper as well as the paper cost me an arm and a leg per roll, and the wall takes two rolls

So while he's putting that up for me I shall be in the kitchen making some soup and doing some baking I think No shopping to go out for as I picked it up yesterday.

Hope everyone is in the warm and dry.it looks like its going to get colder as well this weekend, so I'm battening down the hatches

have a good day what ever you are doing
    Cheers chums

    Good morning.

The storm raged well into the early hours and all seems still now. It's still grey outside, however no rain which is always a bonus.

My cold has quickly moved to my throat, I'd prefer to have the streaming cold back. Coughing a lot but just from my throat. Last night I took some N**** N**** liquid and slept until now apart from a couple of loo visits.

I've got a catch up with a friend planned but will play it by ear and wait to see how I feel nearer the time.

    No other plans.

I hope everyone has a good Thursday.

    Morning everyone,

Now back from taking the girls out, dry at the moment and wind has died down a bit.

Have decided to make the most of the better weather and off to Bury St Eds to pick up some more presents, my tolerance limit is about two hours so will pack in as much as possible. Just can't cope with all the crowds pushing etc so guerrilla tactics are required, in quick and out quicker.
Had a lovely afternoon with my DM, we so enjoyed the Lady in a Van film, smuggled in a bag of £1 choc treats, glad we did as the cinema was selling them for over £3

Hope everyone has a good day x

    Morning all,

Rain has stopped at last but it had turned a lot colder last night, I am off today and after I have dropped dd at the station I am going straight to Portsmouth to try and finish my xmas shopping I only have stocking fillers to get for my dd so I hope to finish it all today, although I too have a very low tolerance for shopping and get fed up after an hour or so !!

Dinner tonight will be something and chips and I need to do a wash tonight and get it on the airer.

Right better get on I want to leave at nine.

Sistercas hope all went well yesterday xxx

    Have good days all xx
  • Good Morning everyone, feeling very jaded this morning as my furry throat has turned into a dry little cough which kept me company and awake for quite a lot of last night! Dry here at the moment but we're expecting rain for quite a lot of the day so He Who Knows is out with Cookie early today. I'm popping to the shopping centre for a few bits to keep him going over the weekend as I'm off to DD1 for a concert tomorrow morning and will be away until Monday.

Going to change the beds today and get the bedding washed, it will dry on the clothes horses in the lounge overnight as we'll have the fire lit, residual heat is very useful! Will pack my suitcase for tomorrow and make himself any food he fancies if I've got the ingredients. Then I'll probably fall asleep in my armchair and zzzzzzzzz for a bit!

Have yourselves a good day and stay warm and dry, Lyn xxx.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's stopped raining for a bit and the winds have died down but it is rather chilly. I still haven't had to put the heating on as yet but I think it will start to go on for an hour or so in the morning from tomorrow.

So many poorlies on here, sending you a warm hug and a big boot to kick all the nasty germs into touch. Touch wood I haven't had a cold this year yet even though hubby and the girls have all had time off work/school with one. I hope my immune system carries on behaving itself.

I will be making a beef stroganoff for tea for me and hubby and the girls will have some sort of pasta dish as they don't like mushrooms. I had my musclefood order yesterday so it is all packed away in the freezer ready to do meals for a few weeks. Tomorrow I will be making savoury mince and dumplings as it was so tasty last time I made it.

I had cuddles with my best friend's daughter's baby boy yesterday. He was so scrummy and smiley and made the cutest little gurgling sounds. Poor mummy looked shattered though as he is still waking up every hour or two through the night for a breast feed. I hope she comes over again soon.

Well, that's all from me for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning ((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))) if you need one.

The wind has dropped, we had a real humdinger of a rain storm yesterday afternoon, the rain was bouncing up off the pavement. Its quite a bit colder this morning. The forecast is not good for the weekend so I need to turn the two storage heaters up a notch tomorrow night when we go to bed.

Yesterdays visits went off ok. OH got on alright with his 'sitter' and my quilting lady got quite a bit done, she has taken two things home with her to finish.

I need to get a move on, its the quilting meeting next week and then just 2 weeks to the Christmas meeting so I need to get the 7 mats done. I also will need to sort out the mess that is my sewing room at the moment and then put my mind to the display for the meet the groups open day in January.

OH is going out to put the fleece blanket over the peach tree, frost has been forecast for the weekend.
