Car insurers mistake

Insurance company want more money 11 months after I took the insurance policy out.
Quick run down.
Enquired about insurance
Found a reasonable price
Insurance company wanted copy of V5 (provided) pay monthly. happy days.
11 months later and renewal looming last instalment made.
Insurance company asked for V5 again (provided)
And ask for £300 extra for previous 11 months insurance
BECAUSE, they took the date of ownership of vehicle from page 1 of V5 which as we all know has details of previous owner. The date I aquired it is some 5 years later and I so page 2.
Am I obliged to pay them the £300?
Where do I stand with regards to me being I a contract with them which they change 11 months later due to an error on their behalf ?
Any suggestions of course of action to take would be
Greatly appreciated

When you took out the insurance they will have asked how long you owned the car.
Check what it says about the info you gave them in your application (it will be set out somewhere in the docs you got) and if they have that info correctly from you then you have grounds for complaint over this late change.0 -

The OP says the had already submitted the V5. I suppose it is possible it went astray but the should have asked again far sooner, I think.
I suggest they send an e-mail complaining. Unless the insurer rolls over, the policy will have renewed before it is resolved and I presume they will look elsewhere for cover then.
The insurer can then choose to spend a £550 FOS fee in an attempt to get the £300 which they seem to think they are entitled to if they wish. Based on what the OP says, I think FOS is likely to be sympathetic to his position.0
