How to get an OVO refund

Options
Having recently applied for a refund of our balance on our electricity/gas account this reply was received which may help others in the same situation.
So to initiate a refund online you will need to have given meter readings in the last 28 days and have been billed to those readings.

During winter months we cannot refund anything that would leave less than two months worth of Direct Debit in credit with your account.

To initiate a refund I would advise giving meter readings the day before your statement is generated on the 15th, waiting for your statement and then you will be able to initiate a refund online.

The inconsistency of utility suppliers never ceases to amaze me -just had my "annual review" with EON...Had a relatively small credit of £60+..mid November, one would think that EON would hang on to it in case of a very cold Winter...however, without me asking ,they returned it to my bank!!

    Hi brewerdave

As it's the annual review, any credit over a fiver is automatically refunded. We've committed to customers with a Monthly Direct Debit that we'll make sure we don't keep more of their money than necessary. To help us do this, we've built in an automatic refund mechanism so once arrangements reach the 12 month mark a credit balance will be returned to your bank.

Totally take your point about the time of year as we're now into the winter period. Future payments, though, should continue to cover the ongoing usage. They'll be set over the next 12 months and based on past usage and current prices. A change to either will trigger a payment review.

Don't know if I've mentioned this to you before but you can take more control through the 'Direct Debit Manager' on our website. This lets you change the payments by up to 20 per cent up or down if the account is billed up to the latest readings. By up to 5 per cent up or down without readings. This can be used if you feel the account is building up too much credit/debit. Will help make sure there's not too much of an imbalance come the next annual review.

Sorry if I'm repeating myself brewerdave but hope it's of interest.

Thanks Malc;certainly wasn't specifically a criticism of EON -altho' if I'd been asked I would have left the credit to prevent any uplift in the Spring because of high Winter usage - just the inconsistencies within the industry as a whole - I was with others in the past (EDF anyone ???)who were VERY resistant to returning much larger credits -even when entering the low usage Summer period:rotfl:

I'm an OVO customer and have had considerable problems with them over billing. I built up a credit of over 3 months DD and tried for a refund or else DD reduction. Their rule seems to be that they only act on a meter reading taken within 2 days or so before the statement date. It took some time for me to ascertain this rule but then they suggested a DD reduction which seemed to me to be too great but I took the easy way out and agreed to it. Some time next year the DD will have to be increased again. I was interested to hear the 2 month DD credit rule. ....that's a new one on me.
Their Smart Meter doesn't work where we live (no mobile reception) and although they've promised a booster antenna it's been over 6 months now and it hasn't arrived so I read the meter myself and send them the readings.

Ah! I see what you mean brewerdave. Hopefully, all will even out as we go through the winter. Which, again hopefully, won't be that severe. Although the weather forecast for this weekend here isn't good. :snow_grin

    Have a good weekend brewerdave.

Eon have a habit of getting you into debts, then failing to take responsability
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
