Direct Line comes up trumps..

It's the annual ''search for the best deal for the car insurance time''.
It's so bloody time consuming...
Current insurer is John Lewis. Renewal cost? £570 for a Volvo xc60, 2014. This wasn't the cheapest btw and bare in mind that circumstances haven't changed in the last year.
Checked around various companies to find out what replacement car I'd be getting should the car be in the repair shop following on from something untoward.
Vast majority were all 1litre or 1.2 litre engined small cars, which aren't the best to put two large dogs into.
So I then checked Direct line.
Same details were given to them as the others got. If you pay a bit extra, you get a like for like car should a repair shop visit be necessary.
Direct Line price?
£350....
Now that is some difference

I was with the 2-3 years ago for the car insurance, but then first of all M&S done me a good deal, then it was John Lewis who done a better deal.
But for an over £200 saving, it is certainly worth looking away from the likes of Moneysupermarket....Life is now good0 -
Comparing the market online gives you a few quotes to start off with, but it's always worth phoning around!
I usually flick between Admiral and Hughes and play them off against each other to get the price down... however last time Hughes were "transitioning to a new pricing structure" and refused to match any other deals. A quick hunt online revealed a few other reputable companies who were quoting in/around the same as Admiral... including the AA who had 12 months free breakdown cover which clinched the deal for me. I remember checking Direct Line and they were definitely one of the cheaper options, but not quite as cost effective once I factored in the cost of taking out additional breakdown cover.
Next renewal time I'll drop AA like a hot potato (before they rope me into a paid 12-month breakdown cover contract) and play the "can you beat this quote" phone game again...0 -

I tend to do the same normally. I did tell the advisor at both JLP and M&S of the price for DL, but neither could match it.
Because the car is fairly new, breakdown cover is included. But what I can't understand is the huge difference for essentially the same product. Also, it seems that the Direct Line cover is a better deal because of the hire car plus part of the deal, and it still worked out more than £200 cheaper than M&S and John Lewis...Life is now good0
