Software - Can this be done?

Hi

My son has his GCSE's next year and we are doing lots of test papers etc. Unfortunately my son has a small disability and can't write. I spend hours scribing for him but he can type very well.

Is there anyway that I can scan test papers into the PC and then he can edit/type on the scanned document his answers?

If not, can anyone suggest any other options?

Many thanks
Terrysdelight

Why does he need to write on the papers?

Can't you just start a new blank document and just type.
    1. Type working and answer etc

You can get software that allows you to just talk into the computer, would that help him ?

    Disabilities are hardly uncommon (now).

Surely the educational establishment has a process in place to deal with students who cannot physically write. Have a word with them.

I'm surprised this hasn't been a problem for him before.

Probably not if the son can "type very well".

I'm guessing the OP believes the answers have to be hand-written on the exam paper.

Some scanners come with OCR (Optical Character Recognition) that allow the resultant page(s) to be edited, however they do not appear in the same format as they were on paper and you may spend more time editing the resultant pages than is practicable. Best check with the school as they will often offer help, particularly the SEN (Special Education Needs) dept.

Thank you. The school have everything in hand at school. He will have a scribe for certain exams and can use the computer in others.

At home, it is very time consuming when cross referencing answers typed up as opposed to written in the book. I have to 1) read the question in one book. 2) read the answer on a typed page. 3 refer to another book for the answers. Things would be so much easier if he could type directly on to the exam paper/work book.

Why not just scan the image, cut and then paste the questions into a new document leaving space between the questions to answer each via typing ?

It's fairly straight forward word processing, do you have MS Office or Libre Office ?

Scan the papers into pdf format and use your pdf reader's typewriter or commenting tool to enter the answers.
