The workshop sounds interesting. I saw Rankin on TV recently doing a history of Edinburgh thing - really good.

I've got tickets to see Bernard Cornwell (wrote the Sharpe books and a new series about Saxons & Vikings) doing a talk with a historian at Warwick castle, plus a book signing. I have my 1st edition of his latest book, so will be getting that signed hopefully!
"I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something."
  • The workshop was fab - I came away with three pages of notes and am currently writing around 1500 words a day, so money well spent there!

Either my Christmas rush has started or I'm benefiting from being a top-rated seller on eBay, but I have 72 orders to go today at the moment and there'll probably be a few more before my 10.30am cut-off time :eek: :D Charm bracelet sales have calmed down a bit but I'm hopefully getting 4,500 silver plated necklace chains delivered this week (I got a call on Friday from the supplier to say that they thought the boxes with them in had just turned up and they'd let me know today) - they've been out of stock for a couple of months, so there's going to be some pent-up demand from my customers I think.

Am determined to get rid of the business overdraft before Christmas - if I can't do it at this time of year, then my retailing model is basically flawed :p

Oh, and since all work and no play makes Caz a very dull girl, I spent three hours yesterday morning driving round remote parts of Sutherland with my camera and was lucky enough to catch this:

    - which absolutely made my morning :D There are precious few places in the world where you can stand on your back door step at 10pm listening to bellowing stags!

Wow, what a beautiful picture, that must have been a breathtaking view. Caz I really don't know how you manage it. I hate packaging anything for the post office and find it all such a hassle but to have so many to do is amazing. I'm really pleased for you that your business is doing so well.

Fantastic photo. Made me feel alll Christmasy:rudolf: Is that wrong in October :D
  • Morning all! Just racing through quickly with an update, since it's mortgage day. The scores on the doors are pretty encouraging. Another £565.55 has been paid off, taking the total amount repaid to a whisker under £6,000 and the percentage paid off has increased from 3.x to 4.x. Little tiny steps, but steps in the right direction :D

I am going to run out of charm bracelets well before Christmas  and with a 13-week lead time, there's no point in putting in a big order and air freighting it over, because they won't get here in time. I've made a note on my Outlook calendar for next June to remind me to order at least 12,000. I did very briefly pay the business overdraft off completely :T but had to send £2,225 overseas yesterday to a new supplier, so I'm back in the red again. The good news is that sales are going stormingly - I've taken £2,000 in the first FOUR DAYS of November :eek: and that's without having any necklace chains still (hopefully the end of the month by which time it'll be too late for a lot of my customers). I had £12,000 as my sales figure on my cashflow statement for November and I remember chuckling as I put it in, thinking I'd never do it. Now I'm not so sure!

AnimatedBravoSmiley.gif I always look forward to reading your diary and I really am glad for you that things are going so well.:T:T
  • Popping in quickly to update my sig with the £50 from my last erotic short story sale, which arrived in the post yesterday with my contributor's copy :D The Seriously Sexy Stocking Filler is available now (I don't get royalties, so hope it's OK to post the title!).

Since I've only got one more mortgage payment until the MFiT-T2 challenge starts, I'm going to have to think seriously about some goals for the next three years. They're starting to take shape, but they're still a little fuzzy round the edges - I don't know whether to be super-ambitious and then get despondent when I'm not on track by the end of the first year or set easily achieveable ones and then feel let down when I reach them too quickly. Striking a happy medium is tricky.

Well done Caz just come back from my first ever visit to Scotland. Gosh it is beautifull. It was a quick 3 day work trip but got to visit Glasgow, Dundee and St Andrew.

  • Oh Gods, it's turning into a really expensive month :(

So far - carpet shampooing machine £150 (my mother's, which was about 40 years old, can't cope with the dog hair - it had a pretty good innings!), investigation of Red's cough and steriod tablets £45 (didn't work), X-ray of Red's lungs £140 (they've found something, waiting for the expert's opinion. Not covered by insurance, pre-existing condition), boyfriend's Xmas pressie £100 (£50 off and I had a £10 Argos voucher towards it as well).

Still to come - bill for analysis of lung samples £no idea, dinner for four at local restaurant when my brother comes to stay £100-ish, car tax £125 and we got home from the supermarket today to find that in the four hours we'd been out, Smokey had twisted his leg again jumping off the sofa and is now bouncing around on 3 legs with his hock swelling up :( He doesn't seem unduly worried about it, but given he keeps doing this every 6-8 weeks and it gets slightly worse every time, I think it's going to be an x-ray for him as well and that also won't be covered by the insurance unless the vets can prove that it's absolutely nothing to do with the ligaments.

    Gah!
