Gyms - Please reassure me!

Jennie luv, rein your neck in a bit trying to tell me what " I need " to do.Personally, seeing as this is wholly a money saving forum, my advice is to ditch all gyms altogether, and concentrate on looking after the finances better and keeping away from another unnecessary monthly debit .Maybe YOU should too seeing as how you have such a lousy credit rating. You also gave advice about nicking Tesco bags on the sly, you "need " to stop doing this . No one ever needs to lift weights.Homo Sapiens managed for millions of years until the last nano second 60 years ago, when the fad/fetish to bulk up muscles began. No one ever takes my advice seriously anyway. There is an element of tongue in cheek to my forays away from the Energy forum where I mostly live. I ve had a go at weights when I was in my 20 s, all my efforts and energy bulking up a bit just melted away in 3 weeks flat as soon as I stopped. Thats how long all this futile effort will last for..3 weeks. I ve done marathon running too , and thats even more stupid than Gyms and weights0

sacsquacco wrote: »That says it all when you refer to the disgusting, stupid and dangerous habits of consuming "ROIDS " in the shortened term implying that they re in widespread use,.. very cool ! thats another reason for avoiding Gyms then, to avoid the super cool;..OP save your £20 and go jogging free.weights and other forms of muscle building activity are known to be completely unhealthy. We know we live in the "vanity " generation with tattoos and tanning and selfies but gyms really are a complete waste of money. To think you have to get in your car, drive umpteen miles, pay £20 to get on a treadmill or cycle machine when you can just pop outside and have 5 mile bike ride or jog, in the open air around a nice scenic park for free. Just my opinion of course, I m very anti Gym.Dont condemn me for my views. They are shared by many of the top nutritionists in the UK.
Maybe my views are coloured by the three Gyms in Doncaster I go to read the meters.all three are body beautiful admiration centres populated by the terminally vain who spend their lives looking at themselves in mirrors whilst pumping up the pecs and overdosing on unhealthy protein supplements . All three are in rough dodgy areas of town so maybe I m missing out on the pleasant urban gyms which the OP is visiting where not everyone is covered head to foot in tats, sorry "body art " lol
Well those top nutritionists are speaking from their !!!. I've been holding off on revealing my location too, but i am from the Doncaster area and for the majority of gyms you are wrong. I've been a member of the Dome, Adwick (now run by the Dome) and Fitness Flex. All are friendly gyms. Either you have a problem yourself or you have the misfortune of meeting absolute idiots everytime you visit. There's only a few in the Donny area i wouldn't reccomend due to the rough clientele.
When you talk of protein overdose you have no idea what you are talking about. Protein is a supplement. Not meant to totally replace meals, but it serves it's purpose for increasing protein macros and recovering pre and post (though i use BCAA now). You cannot 'overdose' on protein, you can overdo it though. I rather protein sources like beef and chicken, but protein shakes are a help.
Too much cardio is bad by the way. To lose weight and to sustain and improve health activities should be balanced and you need to keep track of your macros. Resistance activities are incredibly important. You'll wear yourself down. I only do resistance 3 times a week. Overdoing cardio is incredibly bad. It's also boring (but thats just me).
If you're anti gym then fine, but don't try giving knowledge on subjects you have no clue about. If you're so anti gym you should do some research on callisthenics. Maybe thats more up your alley?
Also the gym is all about focussing on yourself. if you care so much about people on 'roids' and people's tattoos then you need to focus more and stop being overly judgemental. You sound a bit jealous actually. The whole point in going to the gym is to focus on you and achieve your goals. Doncaster NHS actually refer peopke to the gym to recover from injuries to strengthen muscles, joints, etc.
Oh and i don't recommend anyone take anabolic steroids, but at the same time i don't care if the guy in the squat rack or on the bench is taking them. Why are you so upset with me calling steroids 'roids?0 -
Gym bores bore me.
Are you sure the gym is right for you right now.
If you are low on confidence right now-gym might not be your best solution. Trust your gut feeling0 -

Where did I tell you what you need? I don't even know you! I was trying to get you to stop telling the OP what to do, hence putting my example forward as to why your ...ethos on exercise isn't one which works for everyone.
Your experience is down to your actions and what you were working on at the time, you seem to think everyone thinks like you and I can assure you, they don't.0 -
woaah okay.
In order for me to go running at home I'd still have to hop in a car and find somewhere safe - as previously explained, I live 1.5 miles from a main road, on a boat, in the middle of nowhere, a neighbour was mugged near our homes recently, and so with no street lighting/anyone near by I don't feel safe running in the winter (summer is different and I'm totally happy to get up at 5am to run before work when it's not winter)
anywhoo I have been to the gym twice (going tonight too) and I LOVE it. I don't even care if anyone is looking at me, I am running again which I what I love doing, and no i get to run safely (and in the dry!) until I can hit the roads again next year.0 -

Glad your enjoying it0 -
Going to the gym is a great way to become healthier, and it will boost your confidence. The first few weeks you may feel a little shy or awkward but you will get used to it and soon become one of the regulars. The benefits can also be financial: better health, less stress, and less money spent on junk food or other crutches, but also less money spent on medication as you will be healthier. Sure, gyms cost money but being healthy health and fit is priceless.0

That's what I look like.:(:(:(:(
Also, sasquacco, freeweights are actually really good for you. As are bodyweight exercises. Especially as you get older.
