Insurance company cancelled my insurance for sake of 24 hours... Help

Hi, I hope someone can help please. I had been with one call for just over a year and was into my second year with them. I moved jobs which meant my pay date changed from mid month to the end of the month. I rang them to tell them that was happening and they said I just had to tell creation finance, which I did. They never said that it couldn't go past a certain date at this point. I then received and email from them saying 7 day notice of cancellation. I rang them up and they said that they would be cancelling my policy at 11:59 on 29 th July. I explained to them I would be getting paid on 30th and could make the payment then but they said no and cancelled my policy. They charged me £161 in fees plus withheld proof of no claims which meant that my new insurance premium tripled, I told them I couldn't afford the fees and I felt that they were being unepreasonable for the sake of 24 hours. Since then they have continued to add fees on. I made a payment of £8 to them so that they would verbally confirm proof of no claims to my new insurance company, but because of the time it took to get proof I have lost my original offer of £17 and now have to pay £28 a month. I advised them I would be seeking advice but after a onto of trying to get through to someone I've given up. Any help appreciated. Thanks

As far as the cancellation is concerned it does sound like they followed procedure and gave you notice.

But check your policy wording to see what it says about how they can cancel the policy and if they haven't followed the procedure then make a complaint.

Did you tell your new insurer about the cancellation?

(Cancelled policies stay on your record for ever and most insurers ask if you have "ever" had a policy cancelled, and most online off the peg insurers won't quote, meaning you need to find insurers happy to have clients with this in their history (usually more expensive than the norm)
  • Thanks for replying, I did tell my new insurance company that they were cancelling my policy and why, they said they weren't bothered about that kind of cancellation, it was more if I had special restrictions put in place or lied to them etc. I asked my new insurance company about what one call were doing too withoding proof of no claims as I'd been told elsewhere they weren't allowed to do that. They said it's not a policy they adopted but they couldn't comment. Have you heard about this?

    Yes.

Many insurers withdraw co-operation over providing NCD when there is a default on the account and the ex policyholder hasn't paid what they owe.
