There's a website called notalwaysright. It's experiences just like that where the customer is in the wrong. There are some over the phone stories, but most are in-store situations.

There's currently 2561 pages, but new stories are always being added and there are multiple stories per page.

While face-to-face has its advantages it very clearly has disadvantages lol.

Btw I take no responsibility for anyone who finds hours of their life have gone by without them realising because they went to that site and started reading the stories :D

I used to have it on my favourites list- and as you say whole evenings go by without noticing.

  • I deal with the public face to face as I have units in an antique centre, and trust me I could cheerfully do them physical damage when they want a massive discount "cos they do it on the telly"

    Oh yes yes- exactly!

Those antiques programmes on the TV where the item is priced at £150 and they take a cheeky offer of £15 are going to be the death of our business. I think the dealers are doing themselves a big disservice , most of the centres have a fixed discount, the places I've had cabinets in had a strict 10% discount over £10 for trade.

I completely agree. Programmes like Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip have damaged the antique / collectables trade more than anything. Some people get really bolshy when you can't offer a 40 or 50% discount.

Bit like EBay really. I have one item for sale at £115 or best offer, and my last offer was £40 :rotfl:

I'm much more suited to dealing with the public online than face to face. I have a tendency to turn into Basil Fawlty when working on a shop/market/carboot. I've always tended to the discount market, it never ceases to amaze how someone paying £5 for an item that is £10+ elsewhere thinks they're getting a bad deal.

  • I am selling something online for £6.99 with free postage (cheapest on eBay) and someone asked if they bought 7 could they have them for £2 each. Seriously ???
