My mother was a cleaner and seamstress with some experience of shop work. I did not want to follow in her footsteps.

My father was a tool maker and this type of skilled manual work has all but dried up so I couldn't have followed even if I wanted to (and I'm bad at maths so not a good idea anyway).

I'm a Uni grad that has worked in business support roles.

The only people I know who've followed the same career path as their parents have been people whose parents own a business and the offspring joined the business too.

I think following in your parents' footsteps is pretty old fashioned these days.

  • Hey

You are really spoiling us with these new questions...

Mum has left work early to become my brothers carer, otherwise she would have been typical of one of the customers in my new job, I'm sure her new job will be passed down to me one day x

The next question could be your most honest employer/industry of 2015..... Sure that will baffle some!

My dad used to roll in from his work at the cement factory and announce that I would come to nothing when I grow up.

Ironic considering how little he has in life these days, even his stepson is his landlord.

Partially. My parents were both chefs and it was expected that I would also go into catering. I did it for a few years after leaving school and then rebelled and went to university, and now I work in an office. My family didn't really support me doing something else but I didn't love catering enough to want to do it as a career.

Yes- mum was a mental health nurse working primarily with older people with dementia and I was an HCA working with older people with dementia. However I'm now studying with a view to becoming a teacher or a speech therapist.
Dad was a civil servant and my sister has been a civil servant since she left school nearly 30 years ago.

    Definitely not!

My dad's a forklift driver, my mum used to work at a nursery but now teaches key skills to adults who struggle to find work.etc

I work in TV... my brother and sister also work within the media. My parents have no idea where it came from that all of us at some point in our careers have worked for the BBC!
