How to remote access another computer?

Hello all,
Hoping someone can help.
I am trying to remote access another computer from a different house, my mothers, (with permission ofcourse) however it asks what the name is of the computer, but how does my mother find out the name of her computer? After that is there anything else that needs to be done?
Does this mean she can also view my computer too?
Hoping someone can help.

What Windows version is she using? The PC name is usually in the control panel > system page
Only had remote access done via work. Definitely know I couldn't see the other users PC. I think she'll need to allow access when prompted0 -
Teamviewer.
It just works.
Your mother's computer will have a partner number and a password (which changes every session) which she gives you - you can save the partner number for re-use and set up a permanent password on her PC.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
use teamviewer instead of whatever you are using, otherwise her router will block whatever software you are trying to useDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

Best done with team viewer, easy and free for personal use:

Another recommendation for teamviewer, I use it to do tech support for my mother because it's so much easier to see the screen rather than relying on a description given over the telephone.

Yes definately Teamviewer. I use it all the while to "phone home" when I'm away.
An alternative would be TightVNC but as that requires you to open a port it is trickier and more vulnerable to hacking. I use it to access my headless Raspberry Pi(s) on the local network when I need the GUI rather than just a command prompt. If anybody reading this does decide to try it across the internet then don't under any circumstances open the default port as port scanners will pick it up in no time and all be trying to break in (I made that mistake on a Pi and the traffic overwhelmed it).0 -
Yip, the free version of teamviewer, transfers files too.
Avoid Logmein. They abandoned their free version with only a week's notice in an attempt to panic people into buying their paid-for version.0 -
Another vote for Teamviewer, I use it to help my mum in exactly the same scenario the OP describes.
The free version of webex might be worth looking at too.0 -
Got Teamviewer working on my Hudl, Linux netbook and Windows PC. Simple and secure.
Talking my mum through sending an email help request from Windows Remote Assistance was always a nightmare. This just needs her to read out a pin number.0 -
Yup - Teamviewer comes in so handy. Also as a nice little tool to access google when in China!0
