I returned from Reykjavic last week and had intended to see the lights, however, due to really bad weather (the whole island was covered in cloud the time I was there)' this wasn't an option. Although I was informed that there was a great show of the Northern Lights the night before my arrival that was visible from my hotel right in the middle of the city!
As someone has already suggested, have a plan B and despite the horrendous weather, This did not spoil the great sights of the island.
And yes, Iceland is expensive!0 -
I've read Iceland is not the best place to see them, and Northern Sweden or Norway is better. I hope to go and see them and plan to go to Tromso (Norway).0

Iceland is not the absolute best no, neither is Norway Tromso or Sweden, the very best place to see them is Svalbard, its a land mass North of mainland Norway but still Norwegian. It has polar bears! This is the best place to see full on light shows.Owed out = lots. :cool:0
