cheaper car insurance with new quote

Heya guys, just today I commited to buy a car, before I committed I went to contact my insurers Hastings Direct just asking what my premiums would rise to if I were to go ahead with the purchase and they said it would go up to £130 per month fair enough, it's a bit more powerful than my current car. However when I punched my details into the comparison sites they were showing around £70 per month from Hastings Direct.

I am aware some details will be different (for example I got the new quotes with SDPC, whereas I am currently insured as SDP.)

Would this be something to contact them again about? and would Hastings be willing to alter their quotes at all (especially if I use the new details)

I'm just amazed that there could be that much of a difference between a new and updated policy, I do believe everything is the same except the usage of the vehicle. Thanks for any help you can be.

You maybe insured with a different company to the new quote. If you go with the new quote you lose any no claims earned so far this year.

Would it be an idea to contact them and ask about it? (even if it's just to check the differences in the details) and perhaps attempt to negotiate a slightly lower price?

For a difference of £60 a month, I would've phoned them before now.

I'll probably be on the phone to them first thing tomorrow, I haven't had all that much experience with insurance companies (only passed my test in Feb) so without help from here I would be shooting in the dark.

Be careful if you threaten to cancel as you won't earn only NCB unless you complete a year.

Thanks for the warning, I do however have 1 years NCB because I used the car to learn with as the main driver (no other drivers in my house) but as you said I don't really want to loose any NCB.

You earned 1 year as a learner? not all companies will accept that, was the previous policy in your name or do you have an introductory 1 year which may not be accepted elsewhere?

There have been threads where some companies wont take no claims from a date before you passed your test, so beware of that one.

I had this problem for several years. Well, wasn't really a problem, no insurer refused to accept it, just some computer systems couldn't cope with it. Took me until about 18 months ago to sort out by cancelling a policy mid term (not that I did it for that purpose!).
