First mortgage payment

Hi,
I'm due to complete on Friday 27th November.
My mortgage is with Halifax. When would my first payment be?

I have asked my financial adviser however he doesn't seem to know as Halifax don't inform them.

I'd be grateful for anyone's advice.

Many thanks!

  • I need to check this myself but i'm pretty sure I agreed a set date for it to come out of. Whether or not there is a payment in between then as i'd have set it to be around my pay day, i'm not sure.
  • What does the paperwork or emails you've had from Halifax say about this question?? Can't read them from here...

Is there a reason you have asked on here rather than the sure fire organisation who will definitely know?

Look in the guide that came with your offer.

If you didn't get one, it can be seen here (page 8-9);-

Your broker is quite right. First payment is determined by completion date and we are not notified of the first payment date or the amount.

We've been in our new house 2 weeks now, we chose the 1st as our direct debit date. Our first regular payment will go out in 1st Dec but they will also take a payment for November plus the last few days of October on the 19 November as they missed the 1st November as we had only been in here 3 days.

  • We're with Halifax, we completed on the 29th May with the mortgage payments arranged to go out on the 1st of each month.

I had the same question as you as it was all so close together so emailed my mortgage advisor at Halifax who replied:

'You will get a letter letting you know when the first payment will come out and how much they wont take a payment withing 10 days of the mortgage start date'

We soon got this letter saying the first payment will come out on the 10th June.

They usually let you choose the payment date. We choose the 1st for both of our mortgages. When we remortgaged we missed the deadline for the first payment so the first of the following month was a big payment, approx. 6 weeks of payment. The first payment usually is a big one. You should have this in a letter from Halifax (e.g. not your mortgage advisor).

I chose the first also...kind of risky as pay day = last week day of the month but luckily Lloyds hasn't made me miss a payment yet unlike other banks
