I know that Halfords can come in for some stick so I thought I'd mention what happened last Saturday.
Noticed that one of the number plate lights was out on the car.. I have an MOt next week and this apparently is an automatic MOT failure.. Decided to go to Halfords to buy a new set of bulbs and as I didn't have the right screwdriver, get them to fix it for me for a fiver.
Once I got there they asked me if I knew which bulb I wanted and then went through the system to find the correct one.. However.. they told me not to pay for it until they'd had a look at the original bulb.. Hugh the fitter went out in the rain and removed the original bulb.. He then told me to wait as it looked OK and that we was going to go and test it.. He came back with the bulb saying it was fine.. He then went through and thoroughly cleaned the bulb holder and the bulb socket in the car...refitted my old bulb and voila.. It worked fine.. He told me that it was a common problem and best to just use an emery file on the contacts if it happened again.. End result he didn't charge me a penny and the bulb worked fine! In all it took at 30 minutes of his time.. Not bad service at all!! Did buy a spare set of bulbs and a toolkit though so I can do ity myself next time
