Vaillant Turbo Max 828e problem

My boiler packed up while I was mid shower, absolutely dead. After lots of messing about (time of year, everyone so busy) I've got someone coming tomorrow (hopefully). Now I'm a girl and I'm not that practical but I looked up some problems and discovered it could be a fuse on the PCB board. I looked and the right hand fuse as you look at the board was blown. I replaced it and plugged the boiler back in. The light came on and it started to fire up, woo hoo I thought, it's fixed! Then it clicked and went dead again! So something is blowing the fuse? Can anyone offer any help as to what it might be? So I don't get ripped off 😔 Am I right to assume my PCB board is ok as I think they're expensive?

Fuses are designed to blow so that they protect the very expensive item (your PCB) at the cost of your relatively cheap item (a fuse). There are usually two reasons for fuse blowing - overload or short circuit. The answer to your question is another question - how long is a piece of string? It could be water/condensate damage to the PCB or it could be an overload caused by something like the fan, gas valve solenoid, ignition unit etc. You mentioned it started to fire up again and then clicked and went dead. At what point in the firing sequence did it go click? Difficult to diagnose a fault like this without seeing and testing the unit. You have someone coming so I am afraid you will have to wait for their diagnosis.
  • It had barely fired up at all, just started making the kind of preparing noises. Guy here now but he's blown my other spare fuse trying to establish the problem by isolating things and he's having to look to see if he 'has any more fuses', surely they would be basic kit they should carry!

Is this guy a GSR RGI?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I've got loads in the van if he wants to borrow some :rotfl:
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

Those board fuses aren't any old fuse and most are specific sizes to suit the manufacturers board.
Maplins are usually a good place to start.
