Licensing issues with using photos on my website?

I am building a retro 80s/90s football website. There are a host of great images on Flickr that I would love to use and loads ont he web in general.
Can anyone give thoughts or knowledge on using pics that carry the Creative Commons license?
Can photos on Flickr be used if the url pic link is on the Flickr site?

Its always best to talk to the licence holder of whatever image.
Creative Commons has a few difference licences so it depends on what licence they are releasing their image under.
You should not hot link images at all primarily because they still under licence but mostly because you give control to a part of you site to someone who most likely will not be happy with your usage, as the Huffington post found out recently...

Some ebay sellers have been caught out when using other peoples links also.
Sometimes they dont get off so lightly as in the above case, The owner could change the pictures to something really naughty.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
