Changing your Sky Hub to a much better router?

We have had a 1st Gen Sky Netgear DG834GT router since 2007. We have just blagged a free Sky Hub which I am expecting to make a major difference but after reading many reviews for the Sky Hub online it seems not so great.
I've got my new 802.11n dongles and new network cables.
Has anyone ditched their Sky Hub and configured a new router easily which they can recommend?

yes , but you will have to do a google search with a suggested syntax of "sky <my router> password , etc there are sites that will tell you how to extract the user name and password from the router so that you can use them on the new router0

Phone Sky with lots of problems with your router, IF you find it's not better. I just got the new Sky hub after phoning to complain about the (horizontal, silver) router needing to be restarted too often. After a long time on the phone, a couple of weeks, and trying different WiFi channels, they sent the new (vertical, black) router.
It depends on your site of course, but you might as well try it. Mine's much better than the old one with regards to range.0 -
Wireless range on the Sky hub is not brilliant. Plenty of online help with extracting your Sky username and password to use on a different router, but the software you need to do it is Wireshark, which is a free download. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Wonder what you want from the router? We have the black vertical Sky one for a year, had to reboot twice, usually after a long no use period and it reaches the 3rd floor bedroom from the downstairs hallway. Speed is better than Talk talk at around 6Mp/s, new estate with copper wire!0

You could just piggyback a decent router of the sky router, setting the sky one as a modem only.0
