O/S Daily Thread Sunday 15th November 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Very windy here, started some time during the night, but I don't know when. Wet underfoot too.

DH and I up enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day.

Dinner last night was egg and bacon sandwiches, as I cooked pizza and chips as a late lunch, so we didn't need anything too heavy. Lunch today will be roast pork, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, green beans, peas, gravy and yorkshires. Any LO's will be used up over the coming days or put in the freezer.

DH now making a start on his report - this must be written and finished today. I need to prep the lunch, organise pack ups and can then chill once we've eaten lunch.

Have peaceful Sundays' x

Keep safe and well x

Good morning, thank you nmic for starting us off.

It has been an horrendous night, the wind has blown most of the night and is still blowing now. Our friends in the north and Scotland have my sympathy. In the Midlands we always consider we are quite sheltered but definitely not at the moment. It is still dark so I cannot see yet if there is any damage to the fences.

We are going to have a quiet day, nothing in particular planned.

DGD1 is going out for the day and Himself will be watching the GP this afternoon.

We bought the Freesat box yesterday, DGD1 installed it for us so Himself can cancel the S*y subscription on Monday. We also bought the new landline phone which has been charging all night so I can put the numbers in today.

Camelot you must be so pleased all the work is finished for the time being, enjoy it.

Have a good day all and please stay safe and well

• Morning all

I hope everyone is safe and dry with all the terrible weather we've been having.

I got the washing dry on the heated maiden overnight, today I shall cook the shoulder of lamb I bought yesterday and a gammon joint I bought from the butchers last week.

The gammon will be sliced and make packups for hubby next week, I will also use it for gammon, egg and chips one day & all the scraps will make a carbonara.

Hubby will watch the GP today & hopefully have a relaxing day, I bottled my damson vodka yesterday & will bottle the gin today, I've frozen the soaked damsons, I will make boozy jam eventually, I'm thinking of making some Limoncello next.

I'm hoping to finish off the picked beetroot today as well & then it's just the quince jelly to make.

I need to make cakes for work next week, I'm making a 3 ingredient fruit cake, hokey pokey cheese cake, chocolate brownies & cheese palms for those who don't have a sweet tooth.

It's time I fed the fish now, they are queuing up against the side of the tank glaring at me.

Have a good day everyone.

Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.
• Morning all. Grr just lost my first post! It's been horrendous here all night too. Wind and rain battering the house. So mild too and I had to close the windows 'cos of the wind howling through them. So a bad night's sleep all round.

My internet shopping for gifts proved a bit fruitless yesterday so thinking of going down to TKMaxx this morning and see what they have to offer. DD has requested a frozen dessert maker but ended up ordering one into store from Argos. No decent makes going cheap anywhere as they seem to be the in thing just now amongst dieters and healthy eaters.

We'll just have a light lunch when I get back as I have a chicken sitting in the fridge to cook later, with all the trimmings. It's a huge one so should do quite a few meals.

The news from Paris worsened as the day went on yesterday. My heart goes out to all the bereaved. It's heartbreaking and you just cannot comprehend the mentality of the terrorists. They can have no conscience whatsoever.

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS)))))) to those wanting/needing them and take care. Especially if out in the gales xx

Morning :hello:

It's been wet and windy here for a few days. Last night was awful, I was sure there would be some damage outside but everything looks OK.

I've been struggling with Scampi practically gluing himself to the lounge window and barking at everyone who walks past, nothing I did could make him come away. I was tidying his stuff up yesterday, as I picked up his clicker I accidentally clicked it and he looked up - “wassat?” lol. I gave up using it a while ago, he just didn't respond to it at all. So I sat him down and did the whole click, treat, click, treat routine (about 40 times!) then opened the lounge door. I stayed in the kitchen, after a few minutes the barking started. I clicked, he came running :D Hopefully this'll sort the barking out, I've got fed up of closing the front curtains during the day if I want to sit on the sofa. We had a comedy moment – I have a footstool on wheels, it's in the hall at the moment. I clicked, he ran towards me and went to jump over the stool on his way. He landed on it and shot across the hall, jumping off when he reached the kitchen door. I was laughing so hard I was crying :rotfl:

We've painted the bathroom ceiling and done one coat on the walls, will do the second coat today. It doesn't take long to do, the room is tiny :D Master tru said he was going to move the sink over a bit, he was quite insistent that it was his job. He hasn't bothered so we'll do it, then I'll patch the paintwork to the side of it afterwards.

I want to clean the lounge carpet this afternoon, then I'm going to sit and do nothing :D

• Good Morning everyone, I had a great day at my friends wedding and everything went smoothly. The food was superb at the sit-daown and the evening do was great.Caught up with lots of people I hadn't seen for a long time, and finally got home last night at 11.30.
I had a few bits to go into the freezer and went to pull the drawer out and the whole front of the drawer just snapped off,grr so I will have to get a new drawer to replace it.Cheaper than a new fridge /freezer though. My old freezer had wire baskets which were fantastic but it seems today very few are made, its all flimsy plastic drawers.Built in obsolescence I think .

Dreadful news from Paris all those poor innocent people, words fail me at times .

Well its Sunday again so its menu making this morning for the week, and a bit of pottering around until I go to youngest Dds late this afternoon.
Hope everyone has a good day and stays dry.My DGS and his G/f have gone off to Snowdon camping !!! they do pick their times :):):)
Take care everyone

• Good Morning everyone, hope all of you in areas affected by the horrible weather are safe and snug and dry. We had a very windy night, but it's finally stopped raining here for the moment and looking out of the windows we have NO leaves left except on the big apple tree, the silver birches which were golden yesterday are now bare twigs!

DD1 is taking a Bronze D of E trip for the whole of today, they're not predicted heavy rain but underfoot will be very sticky and they're hill walking and can expect drizzle for most of the day, I wish them luck. DD2 and Zebra have decided to come to us for some of Christmas which is wonderful news but will depend on whether or not their house move occurs before or after the holidays. We might have to go and camp out with them for a couple of days for me to Zebra wrangle and He Who Knows to help out and fit the electrical appliances, we'll see how it pans out. Checked my present pile yesterday and discovered that I've nearly everything I need, just really need to get everyone a book to read and finish off stocking presents for all of them, can only be good.

Have yourselves a safe day, Lyn xxx.

Morning everyone, bit of a disturbed night with the wind lifting our roof tiles and making them bang, fingers crossed they are all still up there!
Tru - your description of Scampi's ride on the footstool did make me giggle.
Jackie - so glad you enjoyed your friends wedding.

We are off to the opening of my niece's salon this morning, she has been working out of her Mum's conservatory for the last few years, building up her hair and beauty business but has now expanded into her own little place. Bless her heart, she is such a hard little worker and I couldn't be happier for her.

Hope everyone has a good day x
• Morning All

Wet here but unusually calm, no wind whatsoever. It has now been raining non-stop for about a week so the ground is very soggy.

Stair and landing carpet fitted so it's nice and cosy and oh so quiet, I'm sure next door will be cheering as I'm sure they would be able to hear me on the bare floorboards. I've noticed some paint missing from the landing wall, I think one of the workmen have marked it and tried to rub it off. Wont take long to fix but I wish they would just say.

I have a large pine mirror on the kitchen table that I'm painting black, it will look good at the top of the stairs. If that turns out ok I'll start painting the picture frames.

JackieO - Sounds like you had a good time.
tru - See, through the difficult times with Scampi you have a laugh, would love to have seen it!

Need to go for supplies today, by the time the carpet fitters had left yesterday I couldn't be bothered to go out in that awful rain.

Not sure what's for tea, I had salmon and lots of veggies yesterday which was yummy. Right, off for a shower, have a good Sunday. Take care. XX
• Morning all, what a blowy night! Wind was howling here in the Midlands and I couldn't sleep after 3.45. Today I will do some more work and later will be roasting a chicken , roasties and lots of green veg.
Our toaster is on its last legs, it will toast but you have to stand by it and hold the switch thing down which defeats the purpose really. I asked the mister to replace it while shopping but he forgot to put it on his list. So probably I will get one in the week. I don't need a fancy one, I looked up toasters and was rather surprised at the price of some, all it needs to do is make a bit of toast for eating with marmite. I don't need it to predict the weather or act as a currency converter.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
