I just took a Stanley knife to samples of Laminate (Tegola) 8mm and 2 samples of hardwood and 2 samples of LVT (Starfloor and Tegola).
I did a light score and a heavier score on each of the tiles
I found the results quite remarkable. The laminate is absolutely done for. 2 ugly white lines fro both marks. Hardly any difference between light and firm pressure.
The hardwood marks are less visible from a colour perspective, but the damage has penetrated much much deeper into the material.
The Luxury Vinyl Tiles are barely noticeable. On close inspection, the heavier scratch has definitely caused proportionally more impact. But I really have to flex it and catch the light to even notice.
Furthermore, there is little difference between the premium Tegola and the slight less Premium Starfloor.
You may easily test this yourself and I am sure you will get similar results. Obviously it depends on your overall requirements, but for durability the results are quite convincing.
I think a lot of people are ready to knock something because it is 'new' or because it has negative associations but maybe this is unfair.
