Surely it depends on the people in question? I'm worried sick about the prospect of being the centre of attention, and having all my favourite things on 'display' for people to criticise at our wedding.

Firebird - The sort of people who would criticise your favourite things at YOUR wedding do not deserve to be invited to your wedding :) Unfortunately I have someone who's probably like that who will probably be at my wedding, but as she's now married to my father I can't see a way of not inviting her unless we elope:rotfl:
  • Heres my breakdown for my July 2017 wedding, we're getting married in an old banqueting hall which is part of a fantastic restaurant. They can only accommodate 50 so we're having an evening reception in another venue 2 minutes walk away.
    • Registrar fee - £400 (Way more because it's a Saturday :A )
    • Ceremony venue - £0
    • Wedding breakfast - £3000 (3 course meal for 50, 2 glasses of prosecco each, 1/2 bottle of wine per person)
    • Cake - £150
    • Flowers - £100
    • Hair & makeup - £150
    • Evening venue hire - £450
    • Evening buffet for 80 - £600
    • Photography - £1250
    • Suits - £500
    • Dress - £0 (paid for by family but £500 from ebay)
    • Wedding rings - £1200

We'll get a taxi or friend to take us to the ceremony, nobody will see the car and it seems a waste of money to me. We'll also use an iPod rather than paying for a band or DJ.
I'm not having any bridesmaids so the cost is saved on flowers, dresses, hair etc for them.

The honeymoon will be in place of our regular holiday next year so we have a separate budget for a yearly holiday and I have lots of frequent flyer miles to use to upgrade.
  • With weddings the sky is the limit. But everyone is different as to what they need. The most important thing is to sit down with your friend and discuss what is most important. £8000 is a small budget if you have big dreams. Personally I had a small actual wedding and a big after the wedding party once we returned from our honeymoon. I would strongly recommend this particularly if nervous or unwell as trying to do a big wedding can be very exhausting and scary... Good luck with whatever you plan to do.

Try to seek discounts from the vendors you are familiar with and you can save on the wedding dress as well!
  • I have spent a lot on my wedding dress, my favorite long island wedding venue and on food and drinks.
