Is there any point to one?
The house we have offered on is sound, looks fine, one of a terrace, late Victorian.
If so, in the region of what should you pay.... it is in Plymouth.
(No mortgage so no mortgage valuation happening).
Thanks guys x

    Price is dependent on purchase price.

    Its totally up to you. Services won't be tested. But they may point out maintained issues you might not have thought of. You would get the rebuild cost needed for insurance and an independent opinion of market value.

    Depends on
    * your attitude to risk
    * age of property
    * your ability to spot problems yourself
    * general condition of property

    The answer is really the same as "Is there any point in car breakdown insurance?" except the potential costs are greater

    The house we have offered on is sound
    if you know that for a fact that a survey is pointless
    , looks fine,
    a survey will not help much with cosmetics, so how it looks is irrelevant
    one of a terrace,
    makes little difference to the decision
    late Victorian.
    older the property greater the risk

    Even if there are no surprises about the condition, I'd always want an objective professional opinion on the market value.
  • If not to personal a question what in the region have you all paid ofr surveys and did they help you with your purchases in any way.
    I have never bought a house before.

    If you need to ask, the answer is "yes".

    If you know that you're competent to properly assess the condition of the property, then you don't need to ask.
  • Thank you all.
    What sort of prices do we look at for them?

    I bet if you were spending a £100,000 on a car. You wouldn't part with any money without having it checked over first.
  • Homebuyers Report for our 2 bed semi (210K) was £320. One on a 3 bed end terrace (186K) was £295. This was in Essex. I used a website which issues quotes for comparisons.
