Windows Mail won't open?

Hi, I have had Windows Mail (not Live Mail) installed on my W7 laptop for years without issue. Today, it won't open. I can see the new mail icon next to clock and I can hear new mail arriving and I even get the pop up junk mail box....but I cannot for the life of me get the program itself to open so cannot see/read/send my emails.
I tried system restore but I seem to have an issue there too as only one restore point was available which was for earlier today and was of no help.
Google hasn't been of any help either....I see others having had same problem in the past, but I haven't come across a (non system restore) solution.
Grateful for any ideas pls? Ta

Windows 7 doesn't have any email client with it by default (and Windows Mail was only part of Vista) so you must be using either Windows Live Mail or Outlook or some other email program.
So assuming Live Mail, you can try this:

Have you got Windows Update set to Automatically install updates? If so, you may be one of the many victims of Update KB3097877. Microsoft did quickly issue a revised version of this update under the same number when it was discovered it was causing disruption to some mail clients.
Go to Control Panel and uninstall this update, reboot and see if that cures the problem. You can then reinstall the newer version of KB3097877 later on.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -

Thanks Dave, I'll give that a go and let u know how it goes0 -
With all due respect, I don't disbelieve what you're saying, but you can't have Windows Mail on a Windows 7 machine, it is not part of it and even if you upgraded to 7 from Vista, it gets removed. Are you sure you don't actually have Windows Vista?0

With all due respect, u can have Windows Mail on W7 and I have itU can also have it on W8 and W10
Google it and u will see many DIY options to install it. I used a paid service years ago and it's been great.... until 2day.0 -

Sorry to hear that didn't resolve it. Annoying that System Restore hasn't worked either ... it's always been very flakey for me in W7, one of the very few weak points of an otherwise excellent OS.
Hope you find a solution.
You may even need to start again with a new installation of Windows LIVE Mail from the Windows Essentials suite. It has always worked very well for me in W7... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -
Update: I contacted the service I used to install Windows Mail a few years ago and within 10mins they had it working again and charged the grand sum of £70

Now that's what I call a result. :T
If they had access to your computer, run the usual Malwarebytes and other security scans to make sure you are clean.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0
