we have had numerous credit cards, loans etc over the years, all with ppi I suspect
but we cant remember any details, ive claimed using the form on here and now the banks are all claiming I havnt got a claim and that I need to supply the policy details, that I simply do not have, only mbna have come back with policy numbers and a request we wait 8 weeks, so im replying to the banks asking them to trace my products, is this correct or will they just brush me off, thanks

Under the principle that he who asserts must prove, it it is not strictly necessary for you to provide the evidence but the available evidence must indicate that what you have asserted is more likely than not (and not merely equally likely) to be true.
If the bank has searched for a policy based on what it knows (including what you have told it) and found no trace then it is reasonable for it to conclude that, at best, your claim is only equally likely to be true as not.
There have been some cases where banks have subsequently found the existence of policies but I am not sure that theyare common.0 -
not sure I understand that, how should I reply to the banks0

If you have no policy numbers, which would just be the card numbers, and the banks say they can't find them with the details you supplied, your next step is to send a AR and £10 to each bank to see what info there is left. Depending on the age of your cards, they may have destroed the info, which they are allowed to do. It's your call whether you spend that £10 to see what's left.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

I think -taff is right.
You have written to a lot of banks, saying I "believe I was missold PPI. However, I cannot even provide you with any evidence that there was even a loan that might have had PPI associated with it - let alone an actual PPI insurance.
Nevertheless, I want compensation for this missold policy".
Suppose somebody came to you and tried to make a claim against you on that basis. Would you simply roll over and pay them £££ on the off chance that they were telling the truth?
Again, as -taff says, you can also make a Data Subject Access Request to any bank you think might have missold you a policy.
However, they are only required to provide information held in a "relevant filing system". This means "relevant to the information you provide the data controller (in this case the bank)".
If, after all this time, details of your account have been destroyed, or are only indexed by account number, then you will have paid £10 to find out nothing.
If they do trace an account, it may show no information about any PPI - and even if it does, it was not necessarily missold.
So, once more -taff is correct. It is your call whether you wish to gamble £10 per bank on the off chance that you obtain information that enables you to claim redress.0 -
If you can't even remember whether you had PPI, how can you claim it was missold ?0
