Tesco the right credit card for me?

Been looking over the various options on what is the best credit card to take out.

I'm not looking to transfer any exist debt, my main purchase is just to collect some form or reward points or cash back. Now I do shop at Tesco a lot (main food shopping source and fuel up there as its the closet) but looking at their Credit offers if I apply for one now they are giving up to 8% clubcard points I believe rather than 4% till 30th November, after that its just 4%.

I looked at the Amex CC but I released its not valid for all retailers and I'm not keep to get the clubcard boost points if I can get more points back.

So tell me MSE forum users, is the Tesco CC the right one for me?

I'm currently looking at their low APR card at 7.8% which will be most useful for those who don't pay off the full balance every statement. But it could be relevant if you do pay off the full balance just in case you don't. In terms of Clubcard points you won't be much better off than just using the clubcard if your spending on it is just in Tesco. Points on the credit card is instead of the Clubcard, not in addition to. Also you get 5 points per £4 spend in Tesco not 1 point per £1 as with the Clubcard. So if your spend is for example £7 you lose 2 points.

Could be you will be better off with a different rewards credit card which you can use in addition to your clubcard.
  • Thanks Anthorn

APR doesn't concern me as I usually do pay off my balance in full. Thanks for your response I do understand the point your coming from but as I do shop elsewhere to pay for things in general won't I benefit in getting additional clubcard points through that means rather than just the usual shopping at Tesco.

If I want some form of reward or points system for my purchases (doesn't have to be cash back) what else would you suggest?

The other option is to load a prepaid card before you spend instead of paying off a credit card after you've spent. The Pockit prepaid Mastercard for example pays 6% for spends at Halfords and 6% at Marks n Sparks while the Ffrees prepaid VISA debit cards boast hundreds of online and P.O.S. partners to earn Ffrees points. No-one says you can only have just one cashback card and you could mix and match a credit card and one or more prepaid cards.

Before you get any card check out cashback sites such as topcashback and quidco and look at the fees table of prepaid cards. You might be surprised for example by the potential fees on the Ffrees card. Not all prepaid cards are created equal.
