TV on Wall - Connections

Won't you need an AV Receiver to process the 5.1 from DVD etc? Most peeps plug all their kit into the receiver then run one lead from TV out to the telly.
You def. don't want to leave cables hanging out the wall, if you break the HDMI plug you'd need to pull new cable or chase out the wall.0 -
I don't need 5.1, just some basic connections to link up my equipment from the corner of the room up to the TV on the wall in the centre of the room. I had assumed HDMI, but don't really have any knowledge above that of connection. I think I will need to but cable of approx 5-7m in length and then some wall plates?0

We had an extension built last year and one end of it was to be the "Entertainment wall".
TV was to be wall mounted. Had a power point, antenna cable, HDMI cable and ethernet socket put in the wall behind where the TV would be. Below it, where the amplifier and DVD player would sit, we had a double socket, antenna socket and ethernet port. That is where the other ends of the antenna and HDMI cables behind the TV were. Amplifier has many HDMI inputs, so the single lead from it up to the TV were fine. Ethernet cables were run through the walls to a double port by the existing router.
Works a treat, absolutely no cables visible unless you look behind units. Even the 5.1 speaker cables were run behind the plaster/skirting boards.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Thanks Victor2 - can you post any links for the sockets , amplifiers etc, you bought?0 -
If you just want to be able to connect multiple HDMI enabled bits of kit, how about getting the cables laid by your builder and having something like this, along with a power socket fitted behind the tv - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Socket-Connect-Faceplate-sockets-soldering/dp/B00O4HIAXO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1447511274&sr=8-4&keywords=hdmi+socket+plate0

This may not matter to you, but I would consider the quality of the HDMI cable that you will fit, because anything over 5 metres may struggle with 4K content at 50 or 60 Hertz, which could become more of an issue in future.
Look for a Category 2 cable.0 -

Speaker cable was some mid-range stuff off Amazon I believe, as it's a bit permanent behind the plaster. Ran a short antenna cable from behind the unit with the amp in (as a PVR sits there) up through the wall to the TV. The main antenna feed goes to a socket behind the PVR.
Builder supplied the socket boxes to go in the wall, and happened to have some Cat5e cable as he'd recently equipped his own house for comms.
Cut grooves in the blanking plates to let the cables through.
It's an Onkyo amplifier, with something like 8 HDMI sockets in the back.
Used Toolstation because various other things were coming from there.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards.
