O/S Daily Thread Saturday 14th November

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Welcome Harry, LW nice to see you posting.

Hubby is off to work soon, when I've dropped him off I will go to the bakers for some soft rolls (it's a GP weekend & hubby has a burger in a bun with a beer whilst watching it). Then I will collect DD2 & take her to work to save her a walk.

I received my Tesco club card vouchers y'day, I save them up for Christmas. Every year I double them up & buy the DGC tights, vests, socks etc whatever they need for the winter, so I will be doing that this morning. It doesn't cost me anything and helps out my DD's.

The house is in dire need of a good bottoming but my get up and go has left the building so I'm not sure how much will actually get done.

I will be bottling my damson gin this weekend but that will probably be all I get done.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

Bladder woke me half an hour ago. Came back to find hubby wide awake and raring to go which only means one thing...he will be knackered by midday.

Youngest has got his MOT this morning. He will be up soon and hubby has got to go and see the car he's put a deposit on without actually seeing.

    Onwards and forwards,

    Have a great day all.

  • Morning HESTER and all to follow. I thought we were escaping the storm but the wind was howling away all night and torrential rain is forecast for today. One bonus is I don't have to go out in in it!

I never got round to my pastry making session yesterday, as DS called after lunch, followed by DD and the 3DGDs. When they'd all gone I couldn't be ar*ed starting, so that's earmarked for this morning. As well as a bit of ironing. I have also decided I can't ignore Christmas any longer. I started off my gift buying in fine style in the January sales and kept adding bits to my stash as time went along. This stopped when Mr TA hit his bad patch early summer and I never got back to it. So this afternoon I plan a bit of on-line shopping to see what else I can cross off my list.

Have a good day all (((((((HUGS))))))) to all wanting/needing them and take care, especially if out in the storms and gales. xx

  • Morning all, DS came in from a night with friends and has just eaten half a loaf of leftover garlic bread, says it turns out to be nice cold, who knew!
I will read the papers later, then get on with work. Like you Hester, I need to do a good bottoming but I have other things to do so grubbiness will reign.
I went to bed at 8.30 and was asleep by 9, had a long sleep but not at the conventional time. But sleep is sleep.
Got a load of towels dry on the line yesterday but today's weather report is not great, but it isn't light enough to see the sky yet.
Yesterday I woke up with what looks like a black eye but is probably a repeat of a localised skin infection which caused the same thing sone years ago (on the day I was going to get photo for my ancient person bus pass, nice). Now I look like a person who has been subjected to violence. Not a great look. Not painful though and I didn't even realise until partway through the morning.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone

Thanks HH for starting us off.

Now getting light, still blowy here but dry underfoot and no rain at the moment.

DH up and gone to work - he's only gone in to help his boss out as there's a problem with a regular delivery and several people are off at the moment so there's no-one else to do it. I'm working this morning also, so DH took the offer of the work whilst it was there. This afternoon we have a report to write - this is absolute priority and most be done this weekend. I've been reminding DH for the past 3 months about it.

Dinner last night was chicken curry, rice, accompaniments, a side of veg curry, naans, and poppadums - was lovely. Not sure what we'll be having tonight but there's plenty in so I should be able to organise something.

Was reasonably productive yesterday - got the food shopping done, visited the bank and when I got home I made a batch of cakes. I also got the ironing done. Plumber came and fixed the shower.

    Have good Saturdays' everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning all

Thank you Hester for starting us off. Himself will be watching the GP tomorrow as well, it is the only sport he really enjoys.

Welcome Harry, I think you will enjoy reading this thread, so sorry you had a fall.

Well the landline phone has almost given up the ghost so we have to go and buy a new one today and also I have persuaded Himself to look at a Freesat box. He took out the s*y contract many years ago, so they won't speak to me, but the monthly charge has gradually increased and now it is £47 a month. For what we watch on it this is ridiculous and I have told him we can't afford it. He won't like phoning them I know, but I deal with everything else except this and the car.

We are off to Mr. T in a while to have a look and I can't decide what to do for our meal tomorrow so looking for inspiration, probably won't find it. If I ask Himself he says "I am easy, anything" infuriating:):):)

TA I hope DH is a little less tired today and get going on that pastry to build him up:) I hope he will be a little stronger for Christmas.

Hester your life seems to be a little calmer at the moment I hope it continues for you.

Have a good day all and hugs to anyone who would like one

    Morning All

HH - The housework can wait, you can't do it when you're exhuasted so wait till you have built yourself up a bit.

It's raining hard so any washing will have to dry inside, will probably have to stay in most of the day as the carpet fitters are coming but I don't know when. Hoping they will phone soon to let me know as I could do with some more heat logs for the stove.

Terrible news from Paris, my thoughts are with all those affected.

I shed a tear at Children In Need last night especially when I saw the piece about Robin House hospice, I know the family involved and they are such lovely, loving parents. My 2 hours volunteering there every week seems such a small thing to do.

Cleaning to do today while I wait, apart from that not much planned.

Have a good weekend. Take care. XX

Morning folks, warm welcome to Harry.

Woke up just after six but the house felt cold as heating doesn't kick in until 7, it's still quite windy here and looks like we are set for rain all day. My towels need changing but I always TD them anyway as like them fluffy.
Other than that need to do some baking as tins are empty, will also make batch of soup for next week's lunches, parsnip and apple is favourite at the mo.
For a change am out tonight, meeting up with some friends for a meal, we are going to a restaurant near the river in Ely, really looking forward to it.

Watching the horrific news reports coming in from Paris, my thoughts are with the French people and anyone affected.
    Take care everyone x

I thought I would go out the back and stock up my birdie feeders before the rain gets here. I can go out through the kitchen and use the back door of the garage so no-one can see me in my dressing gown and bed socks! Aaargh this cold snap has caused the wooden door to swell and I can't open it! (It happens every winter!) I now need to go out the front door with my supplies and up and round the garage - in full view of anybody passing and the main road beyond. I think I'll wait until I get dressed!!

  • Good Morning chums ,well I'm off to my friends wedding today, the weather isn't looking very nice at the moment ,very dark and gloomy.I am sure we will all have a great day though. Bless him he's a lovely guy and still our Danny underneath.
Well DD is coming at 10.00 ish to sort my hair out.If it gets too windy I will need lots of hairspray I think.
