Hello, I'm new to this as I live in London but am trying to book a place for my mum to stay. Are there any of the TSH I shouldn't touch with a bargepole, and which are better than others? It's a long thread so I'd be grateful for any tips - thanks in advance.

I've just booked this hotel for New Year's Eve (2 nights @ £308) on lastminute.com. "This hotel offers luxury facilities and great views over London for all travellers. Dining in the hotel's restaurant is a great experience, enjoy local and international dishes with exceptional service. All guests enjoy complimentary use of the swimming pool, gym, steam room and sauna."

This hotel is Grange City Hotel. Booking via the hotel's website costs £295.24 inc. tax and comes with Continental breakfast.
