Check on your Councils website but yes, you should be able to retract your notice.

I'd ask the council before asking this site. Might put your mind at rest straight away?
  • When you gave notice, did council accept it as valid?? If so you could have a problem.

But yes, usually councils will be understanding & flexible: But they don't have to be....

What sort of (there are several) type of tenancy from council do you have??

What does the tenancy agreement say about giving notice?? Sorry, can't read it from here..

Just as your council is the best place to ask about retracting your tenancy notice, so your employer is the best place to ask about retracting your employment notice.

However a strictly legal response is that if you give notice to end a tenancy, and fail to leave, you can be charged double rent.

Distress For Rent Act 1747 S18

I bet you wish you'd just asked the council now!

There is no legal entitlement to keep the job.

As said above, ask them. It'll probably depend on a few factors, have they appointed someone new they do not wish to let down, how well thought of you are etc. It's certainly possible but it's up to the employer.
  • If you think about it, the council are hardly going to want to rehouse you as homeless if you have a house, so I suspect they will allow you to take back your notice., not that councils are always good for logic. Please contact them.

Same for your employer. You have to talk to them.
