if you took the time to do a search you'll find this question has been asked many times, and the answer is always none of them. Do the legwork yourself.

Goodness, are you always quite so rude? Do you think any informed person is going to recommend a company that takes 30% from you for doing something you can easily do yourself?

if you weren't so rude and ignorant with your replies, you would not get an answer back that was rude. Would been easy for you to reply "none are recommended"

I know it is easy to do it yourself, but that was not my question!

    Sorry if i offended you.

The posters on this site recommend exactly what tomontom has said. DIY.

There is no justification for using a CMC.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.
  • I don't

    Yes there is

Yes but you are at odds with:

    The Financial Ombudsman Service.

    The Financial Conduct Authority

    Which?

    The CMCs' own regulator

    moneysavingexpert.com

    me!

    The reason is quite simple.

The reason for this is that to do it yourself, you will need to complete this form. You will then need to go here to find the address of the company you want to complain to.

You can then then send it to that address. You can e-mail it in many cases and it will be deemed to have been received instantly. If not, keep a copy and get proof of posting (free from the post office). The stamp costs 63 pence first class.

If you have multiple complaints to make, you can copy the first one and then change those details which are different (name, address and date of birth will not be so it will be very easy).

No CMC should have access to the details of your accounts because there is no central database holding it. So, the only possible "added value" they can legitimately offer is to look up that address for you. That takes about 30 seconds - considerably less than it takes to read a CMC's terms and conditions.

Of course there are CMCs who claim to hold such information about you but it cannot be legitimately released into the public domain. So there can only be two explanations for such claims.

The first is that they are lying. Would you want to buy services from somebody who lies to you in order to attract your business?

The second is that they have stolen the information. Again, would you want to do business with a thief?

In the end though, it is not simply that it is easy to do it yourself, it is that using a CMC is actually no easier.

Years ago I used a CMC as I did it myself initially and got rejected.

I regret it now as we ended up paying these people about £4k in their fees for money that was ours and should have been refunded to us the first time around. Still got some going through, but these are all DIY ones now and I would never ever use a CMC again.

Basically its easy money for them. That money is yours, and they know that in most cases you will win your claim. If it was hard work to get your money back then CMC's wouldn't be crawling over themselves to represent people.

These people want easy money for little return. What could be easier than to send off a form you've already filled in for them anyway and then claim 30% of your money from you for the privilege of doing so?

Since I first applied for my PPI back from FirstPlus the PPI reclaim landscape has changed dramatically. Most companies now you can make a claim over the phone, takes about 5 mins and you don't even need to fill in any forms. It really couldn't be easier.

You may have objected to the way tom-tom answered your query but he's dead on balls right. There is no justifiable reason for anyone to use these people anymore. They're basically stealing money from you.

I know someone that used one of the PPI companies even though i said do it yourself it only takes a few letters.

The problem now is that they get countless calls from other PPI companies.
Not just random calls that most of us get, but specific ones where they know their details.

Oh gee, I forgot you think you are on a level with all the regulatory authorities.

Or more likely they were once financial advisers who kept the database. That will be the people you represent. The same people who mis-sold so many of the products to the public over the last 20 years
