Payment due 17th - shouldn't my DD have been taken by now?

Considering there's a weekend in the middle?

It isn't a new DD instruction so it's not that, and I've logged into online banking to check that I haven't accidentally cancelled it. There's more than enough in the account to pay the bill.

Should I pay the minimum by debit card just in case? I would end up with the card in credit if I paid in full by card and then the DD was still taken (it's set up for full statement balance.)

Thanks

  • Not necessarily, the 17th is tuesday so plenty of working days next week to take it.
  • My Tesco CC statement always states the DD payment will be taken on xxxxx date or soon after.
If your DD is all set up correctly and, as you say, there are sufficient funds it will be the CC providers error and you shouldn't be penalised for them failing to take the money. Therefore I, personally, wouldn't make an extra payment.
In spite of a weekend I'm sure it will be fine.
edit - as advised in previous post!

Other than for my Tesco CC, all my DDs are taken on the payment date on the statement, the Tesco one is taken 5 days before the due date.

As long as it says on your statement that they will take it by DD (do they not state a date too?), it is up to them to claim it.

    Which card is it?

It's Capital One. I've just checked the statement and it says on or within 3 working days of the 14th. They usually take it a few days before and the payment hits the account before/on the due date.

So they are still within the dates they say, but if they took it 3 working days after the 14th, it would be a late payment.
  • No, it won't be classed as a late payment, as the responsibility sits with them.

My last mbna payment went out of my bank at 7am of the morning it was due and then showed up in my online account sometime in the evening. I don't normally take much notice of when the payment goes out, but I was waiting to cancel the card.

Text alerts and a 0.01p balance are useful for tracking direct debits.

That's very strange, because my Tesco DD is taken on the payment due date.

I'm on a min payment DD though (0% intro period), so maybe you're on a standard rate and are paying in full and the 'rules' are different?

You posted this on 13th. Direct debit due to be taken on the 17th. Why do you imagine it would have been taken by now? The 17th being a Tuesday, it will be taken on 17th. If by chance 17th had been a Saturday or Sunday it would have been taken on the following Monday.

They seem to be in the procees of taking the payment now.

The reason I posted yesterday was that they always seemed to take the DD three working days before the due date in the past.
