  • That's beautiful!

This is mine, although the green wasn't as sick-y in real ilfe. the camera didn't like it - it's a really vivid grass-green. Honest. No, really... ;)

Curses, curses, I'm too new to post links, so I can't post a pic of it...

My gender-uncertain offspring (I didn't Want To Know - I wanted a reward for the delivery!) was bought the standard baby stuff in white which we then dyed British Racing Green. You could spot our froglet at several hundred yards.
I'm all for jewel tones - garnet, amythest, etc. Elegant but strong! They fade rather nicely, too.

When i had my babies i didnt know for sure the sex of them though after the first 3 i knew pretty much what i was having but anyway. Their first layette consisted of 8 plain white vests, 8 plain white babygros and 8 hand knitted first size cardis.

2 White (with pastel coloured buttons)
2 White (with bright coloured buttons)
    Lemon
    Mint green
    Lilac
    Peach

I pretty well winged the rest.:D

I provided the same when my Grandson was born.

Pigpen, that's a really lovely blanket :) That would be such a lovely gift to receive.

I'm in the middle of a second.. these are hand dyed 100% merino wool.. absolutely beautiful but not cheap.. 100% acrylics work just as well.. This was a gift for a 'rainbow baby' after a stillbirth.. but it is beautiful.

This is neon stripes.. utterly gaudy but is wonderful.. I've still not finished it.. people keep wanting hats and scarves and animal cowls.

I had loads in dark reds and purples and pinks for my littlies. I had to knit some blue for my girls after I got way too fed up of pink!

It's for my sister who is really unhelpful when asked about colours - but I think she might just be getting put off with the price of yarn? I've asked her to let me know when she's chosen a Pram so I can co-ordinate with that for a Pram blanket/snuggy.

So far I've done gloves and booties in various colours , a plain cream shawl (just increasing rows of plain knit), a "call the midwife" blanket in white and a few baby hats.

I'm of the opinion that any colour should do really but my very traditional granny is dead set against colours being too bold so having to tread a fine line.
  • There's nothing wrong with pink or blue, for boys or girls! I think it's a shame you feel you have to avoid certain colours because of gender preferences. A family friend knitted my new born nephew a lovely rose pink cardigan and his mum loved it!
  • The last baby cardi I made was in 4ply black rainbow wool and it looked great.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I dressed all mine in brights rather than pastels when possible even dd wore bright greens & blues rather than pastel pinks never did her any harm and shes a real girly girl now so never turned her into the tomboy everyone said it would either.
a lovely bright cardi/hat/booties over a plain white/cream sleepsuit makes a real impact.

depends on when the baby is due but reds, greens & yellows would be great in the run up to xmas

    pigpen that blanket is lovely
