Why do shops sell old yellowed greeting cards?

Why do shops sell old yellowed greeting cards? Would they themselves like to buy this when they are the buyer.

Yes I've seen this. Tends to be newsagents where they've bought a load of them and never sold them. I agree you have to be desperate to buy one of them!

They don't sell them, thats why they're old and yellowed.

Me, I buy the old yellowed cards to reinforce the "Only Doing this Under Protest" bit.
And I haggle the price down, in front of (cringing) family.

My family are *beginning* to learn not to hustle me in the matter of cards.

Not even need to buy one, just cut up a used cornflake pack into a greeting card size, fold it, and give to Dave and say Santa's on the front of it looking jolly.
  • Some extra information. I did not buy it someone send it to me. An elderly relative who lives outside of Europe far away in a small community.
I wanted to post about it a bit neutral without adding all this about old goods being sold to elderly people not to complicate things too much.
Since posting this question my partner middle aged brought home also a yellowed card from a small local shop so it happens everywhere.
The time I was able to go to any shops is long gone.
Might be small things to others and trivial indeed but not to me.
Just wanted some opinions about this.
