iPad 1st generation

I have a colleague who's mentioned that he might be looking to sell his iPad 1st generation. It's in perfect working order.
I'm wondering if there are any potential issues with the 1st gen given it's age as I've been told that some devices become more or less obsolete after a certain period of time and once newer models are released.
Are there limitations on what a 1st gen iPad is able to do now?

It's worth very little. Last OS is 5.1.1 which means most current applications won't work and security problems won't be patched, and it runs that slowly. If that's all you can afford, buy something else.0

Thanks, that's what I suspected. I wasn't actually looking for another device, but there are a few occasions when I could benefit from a larger screensize than my iPad mini and wondered whether this might fill that gap for a reasonable price.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

I'd leave it, the screen resolution is so poor. Ipad gen.3 is the oldest I'd go for, runs iOS9 all be it with many new features turned off.0
