Is it worth switching from domestic and commutation insurance to business 1 insurance for window cleaning just on a Saturday? Most insurance companies with business 1 cover u for travelling to to another work place but not for carrying tools. Maybe only Aviva does. To carry on should you just go for business 1 and hope police don't read into the details of insurance policy and find out it doesn't include carrying tools. Or stay with domestic and commutation?

You would be better off not storing the tools in your van.
If you can't do that then maybe business insurance.0 -
Regardless of whether tools are covered you should have business insurance on your vehicle to use it in connection with a/your business.
If stopped it will be pretty obvious that you are window cleaning as a business and they will check on whether you have business cover. If not it is classed as having no insurance at that point and your car will be impounded unless they allow you to get on the phone and arrange the relevant cover..This is a system account and does not represent a real person. If you get business insurance, would you have to prove you are a registered company paying tax etc etc
Also, to get a quote for business insurance, if you put your car registration in they will know about you, how can you check anonymously? Put a similar car's insurance?
Just carrying a small tool bag in boot could invalidate your car insurance if domestic?0 -

You don't need any proof of the business existing.
You can get quotes online totally anonymously if you want - use dummy details, and you don't need a reg number to get a quote
Carrying tool bags won't invalidate your current insurance, though bear in mind you have no insurance cover when you are doing any journeys connected with your business at present.0 -

I guess if you are only working on Saturdays go but have a trolley brush, scrims barrels of water and flyers in car if police wanted to go through all your stuff, could easily find! So business 1 even without tools included would be better than not having it.
How much info do you have to give when getting business 1?0
