Can a building society really stop me closing an account?

    I don't think it's an unreasonable question to ask OP. Lots do let you get to your money in an emergency - house being repossesed etc. but there is usually a penalty e.g no interest paid.

    I don't touch fixed rate accounts, too inflexible and I wouldn't have touched this one with a barge pole (1%! - there are better instant access accounts).
