Car Write-off valuation- Help!!!!

I was recently hit by another driver (who has accepted full responsibility for the accident) and my car has been written off.
The car was a Peugot 206 1.1 from 2005, so I knew wouldn't be hugely valuable, but it had very low mileage at 42,000 and I was only the second owner, having had it for 7 years. The service history shows it was mechanically sound- at the last MOT the garage declared it would easily run for another 10 years without much in the way of maintenance. It had a couple of minor scratches on the outside, plus one big dent/scratch (a van drove into it outside my house) which would have been a couple of hundred to repair so hadn't been done yet. Another car of the same age, with the same mileage and in similar position would cost about £1800-2200 per ebay/autotrader etc.
I have been offered £1215 by the engineer, which is absolutely ludicrous! He is basing this on the private seller price in the Glasses guide, with a deduction for the dent. He then told me he was being generous giving me that much.
I havelooked at Glasses myself- which shows around his figure for private sale, but shows that if I purchased a new car from a trader i'd be looking at £1800-2000 (which fits my own research). He actually laughed when I suggested this.

The ombudsmans website seems to show that the value paid out should be "Market Value", but should this be the amount I would have got if I'd sold the car, or the amount I would have to pay to buy a similar car now?

Market value = likely cost to buy the same (or nearly the same car) car

With a deduction for the dent?? They car should be being valued without the dent as they are to put you in the position you were before the accident,
