I'm not sure I can be bothered with Amazon at all this year, I'd rather go direct to Apple or JL.

Slight off-topic, but I'm a bit disappointed in the MSE Christmas Deal predictor. Everything in perspective though - I can't expect MSE Martin to be Father Christmas as well!

  • The new page layout for amazon deals is a bit rubbish as it mixes the lighting deals with daily general deals.

Absolutely. I'm not a massive fan of this either.

And it doesn't always seem to be consistently organised by time slot (unlike before) for example, this morning, I was browsing through a certain category and the first page had lightning deal items starting at around 3-4pm this afternoon, page 2 or 3 had items starting within about 20 minutes!

I hated this as well but someone on the Amazon forum posted how to change it back.
Click on todays deals. Once the page has loaded (into the horrible new lay out) the address bar will have -
    amazon.co.uk/gp/deals/ref=nav_cs_gb

If you delete everything after the ref it will show it in the old lay out.
    Hope this helps.

Their commitment to 'Never Knowingly Undersold' means John Lewis will be offering deals to rival high street competitors. See all John Lewis Black Friday deals. http://www.johnlewis.com/electricals/black-friday/c6000670128?rdr=1

I wouldn't buy an iPad from Amazon, John Lewis as they give you a 3 year guarantee at the moment.
I'm not usually so slow on the uptake, but have given this some thought now I'm in the process of narrowing down my choices.

Is JL going to price match Apple on Black Friday? I'd much rather go to a Waitrose superstore / buy online than join the scrum in town.

Mmm good point, there is nothing definite that Apple will reduce there iPad prices though. But if they do I guess its worth asking John Lewis if they will price match.

Bear in mind though that JL won't price match an online deal so unless its a deal in an actual Apple Store, they won't match it.

Well if Apple's Black Friday deals are anything like the last few years I really wouldn't even bother price matching with John Lewis; I think I remember the Apple discounts being somewhere around the 5% mark with a few accessories being as much as 15% off (big wow!) Seriously, shop elsewhere, don't waste your time on Apple deals because they've never been ones to have large discounts on anything! I'm not anti-Apple; I have an ipod, I'd love to be able to afford an iPhone but prices as they are it's never going to happen!
